On behalf of Our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced SHEQ Manager (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality Manager) to be based in Namanve.
Reports To: Operations/ Plant Manager
Duty Station: Namanve, Uganda.
Job Summary: The SHEQ Manager (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality Manager) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the company’s Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality systems to ensure legal compliance, operational efficiency, and continuous improvement in the company. This role involves identifying risks, promoting a strong safety culture, overseeing environmental compliance, and ensuring product and process quality standards are met. The SHEQ Manager works closely with operations, production, and leadership teams to integrate SHEQ best practices into daily business activities and achieve regulatory and corporate objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Safety, Health and Quality Management
- Develop and enforce workplace policies and procedures
- Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard analysis
- Investigate accidents, near misses and incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective measure
- Lead safety training and tool box talks for employees
- Ensure compliance with organizational safety, health Standards and Industry safety standards
- Monitor occupational health risks e.g. exposure to chemicals noise repetitive strain.
- Implement programs to promote employee well-being and mental health.
- Liaise with occupational health providers for employee assessments.
- Ensure appropriate first aid and emergency response systems are in place
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
SHEQ Policy & Management System Oversight
- Develop, implement, and continually enhance integrated SHEQ policies and systems in accordance with national standards and local regulations
- Maintain certifications (e.g., GMP compliance in regulated sectors) and ensure documentation and procedures are audit-ready.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Conduct routine risk assessments, safety and fire audits, and environmental impact evaluations, implementing corrective actions promptly
- Ensure full compliance with hazardous substance standards, local occupational safety laws, and environmental regulations
Incident Investigation & Corrective Action
- Lead investigations into accidents, near misses, and quality incidents—perform thorough root-cause analysis and track corrective/preventive measures.
Training & Cultural Leadership
- Develop and deliver comprehensive training (induction, toolbox talks) on SHEQ procedures, empowering staff to embed safety and quality best practices.
- Champion culture change across production teams, building awareness and encouraging ownership of safety and quality.
Quality Assurance & Control
- Oversee product quality from raw materials to finished goods, following specified manufacturing procedures and standards
- Maintain and improve Quality Management System and quality documentation, including SPC, PPAP, and APQP processes in line with ISO 9001.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Practices
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing defects, minimizing waste, optimizing processes, and enhancing SHEQ performance.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting
- Prepare and present SHEQ reports and KPIs to senior management, and actively participate in audit reviews and management meetings
- Liaise with external regulators, certification bodies, clients, and suppliers to align on compliance and quality standards.
Environmental & Sustainability Integration
- Initiate programs to reduce environmental impact including waste, emissions, energy and water usage to align with sustainability goals
Calibration & Equipment Oversight
- Monitor and manage calibration of testing/QA equipment and instrumentation (e.g., scales, durometers), to ensure accuracy and maintain records
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety & Health or a related field
- Master’s Degree in related field (Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science) is an added advantage.
- Professional Certifications (NEBOSH, ISO) are highly considered
- 5-10+ years in a SHEQ, EHS, or Quality role within the manufacturing industry
- Strong understanding of Ugandan HSE regulations and legal frame works
- Proven experience in implementing or auditing ISO Management systems.
- Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills and relevant software.
