Forum for Kalongo Parish Women Associations (FOKAPAWA) was founded by grassroots women in Northern Uganda who suffered the impact of the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) war– women whose rights had been violated and those whose children have been forcefully abducted by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). For over 23 years, LRA terrorized the northern region with physical and psychological torture, forcing over 1.6 million Ugandans to leave their ancestral land and relocate into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camps. This had a profound effect on the culture, education, health, and livelihoods in the region. FOKAPAWA registered with the National Non-Government Organization (NGO) board with Registration No. 5433. Recently, FOKAPAWA updated its credentials in line with a directive from Government of Uganda, with the National Bureau for NGOs of Ministry of Internal Affairs and was assigned No. 697 in the Updated National NGO Register of 13th January 2020. Overall, FOKAPAWA has implemented key development programs in education, health, human rights, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Peace Building, Economic and Social Empowerment, Psychosocial Support, and Advocacy. However, some of the key challenges faced during the implementation of the previous strategic plan. Some of these challenges included; Inadequate fund to fully implement some of the activities under the different thematic areas like Livelihood, Health; the demand driven model implementation approach by channeling funds to specific thematic areas of needs; the COVID-19 pandemic which impacted of project implementation; the scope limitation and the high level of competition with other NGOs/INGOs when comes to resource mobilization.
