UNREEEA advocates for a conducive environment for private sector involvement in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency to sustain its growth and development.


BROKERAGE
UNREEEA facilitates partnerships with stakeholders including government, private sector, manufacturers at local, national and regional levels. This will leverage businesses, policies and learning at all levels.


CAPACITY BUILDING
Capacity building at different levels for the different actors in according with specific roles and responsibilities.


RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
UNREEEA participates in various research and Development projects within the context of clean energy and development with various partners particularly think tanks and academia. This collaboration will provide useful information to members, policy makers and investors to engage in different R&D projects either collectively with other partners or individually. Similarly, such involvement offers support to members to access relevant information that will facilitate investment, trade and innovation in the RE and EE in Uganda.


CERTIFICATION
UNREEEA strives to uphold delegated mandate from government for skills development and certification services for energy sector technicians such artisan, solar technicians, briquette manufacturers and biogas masons and start up ESCOs and RESCOs.


RESOURCE MOBILIZATION
UNREEEA mobilizes resources from short, medium and long term sources to support institutional development, membership services and sustainability.Action Areas

MARKET BUILDING
Supporting market development through promotion of investment, research and awareness creation. In partnership with government and other sector stakeholders, the alliance supports market awareness with a focus on energy and climate change. We use this as a demand side management tool to speed up the adoption rates of renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies for sustainable development in Uganda. In efforts to boost market development, the alliance also aspires to use both market based and scientific research to identify opportunities and bottlenecks for which it designs respective sustainable interventions.


LOBBYING AND ADVOCACY
Improving the business environment for member companies and enterprises within the UNREEEA network/supply side and the consumer side through advocacy and lobbying. UNREEEA aims at establishing a conducive regulatory and tax environment for renewable energy and energy efficiency businesses in Uganda.


CAPACITY BUILDING
In an effort to cope with Uganda’s fast growing renewable energy and energy efficiency market, the alliance strives to increase knowledge and skills of players in the private sector through capacity building initiatives.


STANDARDS AND QUALITY ASSURANCE
Through a voluntary self-regulating mechanism, the alliance ensures consumer protection through promoting adherence to quality and standards amongst its network members in the renewable energy sector of Uganda.Projects

USAID-ICYD UNREEEA PARTNERSHIP
USAID – Integrated Child and Youth Development (ICYD) activity delivers basic education and Orphaned and Vulnerable Children (OVC) services to children and youth by strengthening young people’s ability to critically engage with their environment, address their health and safety needs, and make it more likely to reach their potential.



Powering Jobs! DRE Employment Survey
A significant data gap exists on the employment opportunity from delivering energy access to the millions of people and businesses worldwide who lack electricity. Powering Jobs is centered around jobs census for the distributed renewable energy sector or DRE.



Updating of E.A Region Solar Taxation Handbook
The “Solar Taxation Handbook” is a comprehensive guide to solar products, parts and accessories. It serves as a reference document and training resource for individuals, firms, officials and organizations involved in the movement, release and clearance of off-grid solar products.



Needs Assessment Survey &Value Proposition
The Needs Assessment and Value Proposition study/activity is investigating the current status of companies in UNREEEA membership specialising in renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and businesses.

The study is focusing on capture and assessment of challenges within the renewable energy market, policy and regulatory environment.



Green Banking Project
Green Banking Uganda– Capacity Building on Green Energy and Climate Finance is a training programme directed towards financial institutions and clean energy market sector players interested in scaling up lending activities to decentralised renewable energy (decentralised RE) and energy efficient (EE) technologies.



Biogas in Uganda
On December 1, 2020, the first phase of a three-year chamber and association partnership between the German Biogas Association (FvB) and the Uganda National Biogas Alliance (UNBA) began in Uganda. Biogas technology belongs to the modern “Renewable Energy Technologies”.Uganda National Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Alliance (UNREEEA) is a non-profit, non-partisan apex organisation of business associations and actors in the renewable energy and energy efficiency subsector. As an apex organisation, UNREEEA advocates for a conducive environment for private sector involvement in RE&EE to sustain its growth and development.

UNREEEA was incorporated in 2015 by six renewable energy and energy efficiency business associations. These business associations represent a specific technology and are actively increasing its deployment and development in Uganda.
