Founded in 1903, FFI is the world's longest established international conservation body; our conservation work, and impact, spans the globe. In Eastern Africa FFI is tackling the threat of climate Change by directly protecting habitats and the biodiversity that underpins ecosystem services, and working with Committed partners in order to help minimize the environmental impact of development at community level. FFI Uganda has received funding from Darwin Initiative to implement a project within the Albertine Rift for three years titled “Community— led approaches to reforestation benefiting chimpanzees and livelihoods “
Job Title: Agribusiness officer, Uganda
Reports to: The program Officer — Uganda
Location: Hoima
Purpose:
To enable the delivery of FFI's commitments with in the Albertine rift on forest connectivity for chimpanzees through the delivery of technically strong Agribusiness approaches [Agriculture value Chain and Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) .

Specific Duties:
Project Implementation
• Deliver the implementation of the agri-value chain development project activities using market system and enterprise development approach (PMSD] wildlife—friendly enterprise development interventions (Agriculture value chain especially Ginger, and VSLA Operations) of the project
• Relying on technical inputs from relevant project team members, lead on the market research study to identity demand for agricultural products in the district and national markets, map existing traders, processing companies, exporters, agri—input suppliers, rural banks financing agriculture supply chains.
• Identify agribusiness processors and exporters interested in sourcing agriculture produce from the communities.
• Engage in communications and relationship with relevant private sector partners interested in community produce.
• Support farmers and VLSA group members in the Private Forest Owner Associations to engage with key stakeholders including agribusiness companies and financial service providers.
• Support PFOAs to secure the necessary registration documentation required for their enterprise development.
• Support PFOA members and relevant project staff to design and set up conservation enterprise that market chimpanzee friendly agriculture products from the community.
• Support PFOA members and the project team so to see effective governance structure, ensuring equitable benefit sharing agreements and with a particular Focus on women participation.

• Support the Development of a strategic plan and a design for market system development to meet project objectives
• Empowering women and men in the community preparing them for multi—stakeholder PMSD workshop.
• Support PFOAs to market the conservation enterprise selected
• Support the effective delivery of PMSD multi—stakeholder workshops
• Follow up engagements with agribusiness companies and financial service providers [rural banks for example} along the supply chain through one—to—one meetings to formalize partnerships and collaborations.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
• Collect socio—economic data for commercial agroforestry product selection and enterprise feasibility study.
• Support the development of monthly, quarterly and annual enterprise development work plans and related activity budgets.
• Support the project team in timely reporting, documentation and feedback to beneficiaries and donors.
• Support the project baseline surveys and end of project Participatory Impact Assessment studies.
• Support all monitoring and evaluation components of this project when relating to Agroforestry and primates monitoring activities.
• Support the project manager arid the wider project team to monitor performance and impact indicators.


Person specifications
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Business administration, rural development, agri-business or agricultural economics
• Experience with wide range of donor reporting systems and compliance requirements
• Excellent writing skills and ability to produce quality and timely reports as well as make valuable contribution towards development of conservation and livelihoods focused technical and funding proposals.
• Field experience in small holder farmers or relevant research, preferably in a developing country context
• At least 5 years of experience and proven hands—on track record in the fields of supply chain, marketing, cooperatives/farmer association, agricultural practices, or related programming
• Experience with wide range of donor reporting systems and compliance requirement


Desired Skills
• Proficiency in local languages, Runyakitara, Luganda, Alur and or Lugbara
• Understanding of methods for project monitoring and evaluation
• Skills in building partner capacity and/or facilitating discussion groups
• Basic data handling and/or analysis skills
• Prior experience in working with CBOs, NGOs or governments in in agricultural, value chain and marketing related programs.
• Experience planning and/or delivering workshops
• Experience in implementing farmer digitalization tool at community level such as early pest warning, weather forecasting, market information, online marketing platforms.
• Prior experiences working for agribusiness, cooperatives farmer associations.
• Experience working in certifications, for example organic and fair trade certification.
