JOB DETAILS:
PURPOSE:
Based on PP Global’s mission and goals, the Associate Director (AD) is responsible for the development and implementation of Planned Parenthood Global’s strategies in the country of assignment, in this case, Uganda, and designing and leading assigned regional and cross-national initiatives. To this end, the AD works with the country and regional teams to define new priorities and strategies, identify and cultivate new partnerships, develop new initiatives, and support partner organizations that advance sexual and reproductive health and rights, and/or social norms. The Associate Director is also responsible for designing and delivering tailored technical support and providing strategic insight for the country and regional partners.
DELIVERY:
The Associate Director is responsible for leading the design of new strategic approaches that broaden access to quality, client-centered sexual and reproductive health services, positively transforms social cultural norms and advances sexual and reproductive rights in the region and country of assignment. The Associate Director defines and oversees the implementation of complex partnerships and collaborations to further the program strategies.
The Associate Director is responsible for independently applying regional strategies in the country of assignment (Uganda) and developing partnerships and technical support to that end. The AD leads on monitoring and evaluation activities through analysis of financial reports, tracking of project progress, financial reviews, and ongoing correspondence with partners and visits. The AD guides regional and country planning processes. Contributes to the monitoring of strategic plans for relevant countries or regional initiatives and identifies priority areas and next steps, such as:
• Identifies training needs and designs, coordinates, and implements technical assistance and training opportunities for partners. Supports assigned projects and regional initiatives to monitor and make strategic decisions about their project budget.
• Develops strategies to integrate new methodologies, evidence and/or technologies into programming and contributes to the creation of frameworks, and emerging models.
• Leads on special projects to advance country goals, as assigned.
• Participates in country team meetings and regional staff meetings, providing updates on project progress, country- and regional-level context, and new technical assistance resources.
• Identifies need for and supports creation of technical assistance tools that can be applied with all projects, in collaboration with other regional staff, contributing to the databank of technical assistance tools and materials on relevant topics ensuring consistency, relevance and effectiveness.
• Identifies potential in-country partners, opportunities for new projects and develops new project proposals.
• Supervises interns, consultants, and/or staff as assigned.
• Contributes to a positive work environment by providing additional support, coaching, training and orientation to POs.
ENGAGEMENT:
The Associate Director (AD) represents PP Global nationally in Uganda; regionally; and internationally with external partners, sister organizations, and other stakeholders to build the PP Global reputation and network. The AD is responsible for cultivating relationships with leaders as an advocate of sexual and reproductive rights. The AD initiates and maintains relationships with key entities in the region, including government and non-governmental agencies, and other relevant entities, in order to identify new opportunities and support PP Global’s professional relationships and visibility.
The AD develops and maintains relationships with national and regional allies and positions PP Global in the country of assignment through presentations and publications. The AD takes care of Internal & External Customers as well as Third Parties, supports the Regional Director in external relations through representing PP Global among partners and key stakeholders and promoting PP Global’s mission through delivering presentations at relevant meetings and conferences.
Other visibility and engagement duties include:
Serve as a thought leader and share lessons learned and best practices among PP Global staff, partners and allies on emerging trends that increase demand, access, information and public support for abortion. Support and guide opportunities that foster innovation and effective replication and scale-up practices by staying up to date on leading edge ideas and program models.
• Increases PP Global’s visibility through submission of abstracts and presentations at conferences on behalf of Planned Parenthood Global and regional partners.
• Produces documentation of regional work, including documentation of unique models, evaluations of successes, and analysis of Planned Parenthood Global partners, among others.
• Writes articles, blog posts, and/or briefs to raise visibility and to develop a greater understanding of our work; Contributes to communications materials.
• Share updates and progress in the field and stays up to date on issues related to regional programming.
• Participates in meetings with key organizations in order to advance PP Global strategies.
• Leads interaction with assigned partners in focus country.
• Coordinates with country team to ensure consistent, partner- centered experience.
• Identifies, hires, and manages relationships with national and international consultants.
• Coordinates and communicates with Global and domestic PPFA staff, external consultants, and other collaborating agencies to increase support, quality, and positioning of programs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES (KSAs):
EDUCATION: Master's degree in public health, administration, or international development or related field experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
• 10+ years of progressively responsible program and budget management experience.
• 10+ years of experience with global sexual and reproductive health and rights programming.
• Demonstrated experience with training and facilitation, including in a virtual setting.
• Demonstrated experience managing consultants and/or staff.
