Role Summary

The Brand Manager will lead the development, growth, and management of Viya’s brand portfolio across Kenya and Uganda. This strategic role integrates brand planning, marketing execution, market analysis, and commercial performance to deliver strong consumer connection, competitive positioning, and sustained value creation.  

The successful candidate will translate insight into action, drive innovation, and coordinate crossfunctional teams to bring brand strategies to life across markets.

Key Responsibilities:

1.                  Brand Strategy & Execution

  • Take full ownership of brand planning and execution across Kenya and Uganda.
  • Define and articulate brand positioning, value proposition, personality, and voice.
  • Lead the development of annual brand plans with clear objectives, tactics, and performance metrics.
  • Continuously refine strategies in response to performance and market changes.

2.                  Market Performance & Brand Equity

  • Maintain consistent brand messaging and experience across all touchpoints.
  • Protect and grow brand equity and market share through effective positioning and engagement.
  • Monitor market trends, consumer feedback, and competitive activity to guide responsive action.

3.                  Brand Renovation & Expansion

  • Lead brand renovation projects with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment with consumer insights.
  • Identify and develop brand extension opportunities across categories, segments, and geographies.
  • Build compelling, insight-driven business cases for growth initiatives.

4.                  ATL, BTL & Digital Marketing

  • Lead the ATL strategy including media planning, creative development, and campaign execution.
  • Oversee BTL strategy including in-store activities, field activations, and visibility enhancement.
  • Collaborate with digital teams/agencies to optimize the digital consumer journey and evaluate digital performance plans.
  • Provide clear briefs and critically assess creative and media agency outputs.

5.                  Consumer, Shopper & Trade Insight

  • Translate consumer, shopper, and trade insights into actionable brand opportunities.
  • Conduct regular market visits and fieldwork to gather feedback and identify execution gaps.
  • Work closely with Trade Marketing to ensure alignment between strategy and in-market execution.

6.                  Financial Management

  • Take full P&L responsibility for the brand portfolio and deliver sales, profit, and share targets.
  • Ensure efficient and effective budget utilization aligned to performance priorities.
  • Understand and manage key P&L levers to drive brand profitability and ROI.

7.                  Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with Sales, Trade Marketing, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, and Supply Chain to ensure brand success.
  • Drive internal advocacy for the brand and embed product knowledge across the commercial team.
  • Mentor, manage, and develop direct reports where applicable, fostering a highperformance culture.

Qualifications and Experience7 Minimum Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration or Commerce. Additional Consideration
  • Candidates with a Health Sciences or Life Sciences background may also be considered if complemented by strong commercial/marketing experience, especially for pharma/health portfolios.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in brand management, product marketing, or commercial roles in FMCG or pharmaceuticals.
  • Preferred: 5+ years with regional responsibilities and proven experience managing brand P&Ls.
  • Experience working with data tools such as IRI, Aztec, or AC Nielsen is an added advantage. Functional Skills & Knowledge
