The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with over 75 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within Shelter, Education, Food security, Legal Assistance, Camp Management Water, Sanitation and Hygiene sectors.
The main responsibility for the position is to teach primary level subjects and document day-to-day subjects with the aim of reintegrating the learners to the mainstream/regular schools. The AEP Teacher works closely with Lead Teacher, Education Assistant and Centre staff members to ensure all school activities are facilitated in good time and in professional standard and will be responsible for the following
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Planning and delivering daily lessons and preparing schemes of work in close collaboration and consultation with the Centre Lead Teacher.
• Developing teaching/learning aids, other instructional materials to support learning processes.
• Providing classroom instruction according to the learning framework from National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) and strictly adhere to the agreed timetable.
• Selecting and using differentiated learner-centred teaching methods
• Promoting a safe and child friendly learning environment that is conducive for teaching and learning
• Continuous assessment of learners and provision of monthly progress reports in collaboration with the AEP Centre Lead Teacher.
• Maintaining record of learners including registration, enrolment, attendance and drop outs
• Supporting learners' participation in classroom, extra-curricular and school activities.
• Participating in community mobilization and sensitization on regular basis.
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts General hygiene of the children and center/school.
• Providing guidance and counselling for team and learners
• Demonstrate understanding of the education policy and practices in Uganda,
• Providing psychosocial support to learners in need
• Good team building experience and skills Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on regular basis
Qualifications:
• Grade III Teacher's Certificate and Diploma in primary education is added advantage
• Registered with Ministry of Education and Sports and in possession of registration certificate Relevant teaching experience of at least two years.
• Fluency in both spoken and written English
• Ability to speak any local language commonly spoken by the beneficiaries
• Knowledge of the local context and education systems in Uganda
• Ability to work harmoniously with the refugees and host communities
