JOB DETAILS:

EnerGrow is expanding its clean cooking and productive-use-of-energy (PUE) initiatives, and robust data is essential to validate impact, refine business models, and drive investor engagement. To support this, EnerGrow is temporarily engaging a full-time data analyst to work closely with its internal team and technical partners to analyze existing datasets, strengthen ongoing data practices, and translate insights into compelling fundraising and strategic narratives.

2. Objectives of the Assignment

The consultant will support EnerGrow to:

• Extract actionable insights from its existing cooking- and PUE-related datasets.
• Establish improved data collection, monitoring, and analysis processes.
• Package insights and visualizations into materials that support fundraising and strategic communications.

3. Scope of Work

The consultancy will focus on three core workstreams:

A. Analysis of Existing Data

• Conduct detailed analysis of EnerGrow’s existing datasets related to cooking and productive use of energy, with a focus on:

a. Behavior change and stove usage

b. Carbon impact and emissions reductions

c. Customer satisfaction and experience

d. Household and business-level cost savings

• Identify and summarize trends, outliers, and high-value insights
• Generate visualizations and short summary briefs to support internal decision-making

B. Strengthening Data Systems and Practices

• Review and assess EnerGrow’s current data collection tools and monitoring approaches
• Work with staff to propose improved data frameworks and protocols across cooking and PUE interventions
• Recommend (and where possible, prototype) new data points or survey questions to enhance impact measurement
• Ensure data collection workflows are practical, scalable, and AI-friendly

C. Packaging Insights for Fundraising and Strategy

Collaborate with the CEO and fundraising team to translate key findings into high-impact materials, including:

a. Infographics, charts, and short case studies

b. Slides and summary notes for donor/investor engagement

c. Internal dashboards or reports as relevant

• Support data storytelling efforts by ensuring insights are tailored to funder priorities (e.g., cost savings, carbon impact, customer outcomes)

4. Deliverables

Final deliverables will be defined collaboratively at the start of the engagement but will generally include:

• Insight reports and visual summaries of existing cooking and PUE datasets
• A recommended framework and SOP for improved data collection and monitoring
• Proposed additions to ongoing survey instruments or tools
• Data-informed slide deck and talking points for fundraising use
• Weekly check-ins and final end-of-assignment briefing document

5. Duration and Workload

4 month consultancy

Estimated workload: 40 hours/week, with flexibility depending on phase and task flow

6. Consultant Profile

• Proven experience in data analysis and visualization, preferably in energy access, clean cooking, or related sectors.
• Familiarity with impact measurement methodologies (e.g., carbon accounting, cost-benefit analysis, behavioral analytics)
• Strong skills in Excel, Python, R, or other relevant tools
• Experience designing data collection frameworks and working with field teams
• Ability to translate data into simple and actionable insights for non-technical audiences
• Comfortable using AI tools to streamline data workflows and reporting
• Experience financial modeling a bonus
• Experience in start-up fundraising a bonus

7. Coordination and Reporting

The consultant will report to Mansur Wembabazi, with check-ins every week and coordination with EnerGrow’s senior management, finance, sales, and operations teams as needed.
