Job details:
In 1995, Epicentre created a permanent research center in Uganda to support MSF projects in the region. The primary role of Epicentre in Mbarara is to conduct clinical research following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) requirements on critical public health burdens in Uganda and Africa. To reach this objective, Epicentre collaborates closely with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). A full-time experienced research team is based at the Epicentre Mbarara Research Center.

The Mbarara Research Center is located in Mbarara Municipality, 300 km southwest of Kampala. The main health facility is Mbarara Referral Hospital which is also a teaching hospital for the MUST. This is the referral hospital for the Western region

This is the referral hospital for the western region of Uganda with a capacity of 240 beds. The research center is structured into several departments. Administration, logistics, laboratory, data management.

Deputy Internal Monitor
General responsibilities (not exhaustive)

  • Monitor the clinical trial site with regards to protocol compliance and ICH-GCP requirements.
  • Provide back up and support for external monitors and audits as required.
  • Communicate with the sites the findings and follow up of all pending issues.
  • initiate and maintain the sponsor trial master file as appropriate.
  • Ensure completeness and consistency of the study data with the study’s investigators.
  • Support and respond to requests from the trial site team members and investigators on trial related matters.
  • Collaborate closely with the data-manager/statistician of the study for the data cleaning.
  • Provide support for coordination office duties, e.g. logistics and trainings.
  • Follow-up pharmaceutical regulatory requirements, documentation and processes.
  • Give assistance in ICH GCP training for the investigators as required.
  • Put into practice the research protocol.
  • Develop and update monitoring standard operating procedures for the study.

Qualifications and competencies

  • University degree in a related health profession or a field related to research compliance.
  • Previous experience on clinical trial study and monitoring experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of ICH guidelines, GCP, and the clinical trial study process.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams as well as independently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
