The Programme “Natural Resources Stewardship” is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU).
The NatuReS programme is supporting partner institutions from the public and private sector as well as civil society to strengthen collective action for water secure and pollution free urban areas in Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and Gulu City Council. The aim of the collective action is to safeguard natural resources while fostering inclusive growth and prosperity.

Knowledge, Skills & Competences
• Mechanical skills are an added advantage.
• Previous GIZ work experience is added advantage.
• Must have done a defensive driving course and first aid training.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license; a certificate in mechanics is an added advantage.
• Excellent English and local language skills.
• Discipline and punctuality; Stress tolerance and patience
KEY Responsibilities
The Driver will be in charge of:
• Safe and responsible driving of office vehicles.
• Routine maintenance and care of office vehicles.
• Running of official errands and assisting with other office services.
• Takes careful note of all available information concerning street conditions, effective routes and locations.
• Strictly follows GIZ rules incl. GIZ safety standards.
• The Driver will be expected to perform the following tasks:
Specific Tasks
Driving and Chauffeuring
• Drives programme vehicles safely and chauffeurs GIZ employees, official visitors and consultants and guests to official destinations.
• Assists in the transport of goods.
• Supports the GIZ Office in Gulu and, where applicable, in Kampala.
Maintenance of Cars
• Regularly cleans the inside and outside of the office vehicle.
• Checks oil, water, brake and clutch fluids daily; tyre pressures, battery water, and overall vehicle condition monthly or after 5000km whichever comes earlier; tests lights, brakes, bodywork for dents, etc.
• Reports the need for maintenance and undertakes minor repairs.
• Is responsible for programme vehicle documents and its care
• Calculates the petrol, oil and lubricant (POL) use monthly, is responsible for a special petty cash for POL and submits vouchers to accounting monthly.
• Reports the need for maintenance and undertakes minor repairs.
• Checks other programme vehicles used by programme personnel (incl. cars, assigned to Development Advisors).
• Monitors and reports the need to renew car insurance incl. official cars used by other programme personnel.
• Immediately reports any involvement of the project/office vehicle in any, even minor accidents, or any damage or theft of equipment from the vehicle.
• Compiles driver reports on the condition of vehicle.
Road Information
• Uses all available information (incl. actual radio news on traffic situations) to update knowledge of street conditions, effective routes and locations daily.
• Exchanges this information with other drivers.
General Services
• Wears proper attire and serves all passengers in a friendly manner.
• Ensures his/her mobile phone is always charged and reachable during office hours.
• Runs errands for the GIZ NatuReS Office e.g. delivery of letters/messages, payment of bills, and makes minor purchases as directed.
• Compiles the logbook correctly and accurately.
• Does not use, at any time, the car for his/her own private purposes. Such misuse of the vehicle is considered a serious misconduct and will immediately lead to a warning and may result in dismissal.
• Does not drink alcohol before and during working hours.
Other Duties/Additional Tasks
• If there is no outside driving activity, s/he stands by in the office, supports other colleagues in case of need, and does other office work as assigned.
• Reports any incident whilst off duty that may affect his/her driving licence entitlement, as well as any newly known health problems that may affect his/her ability to drive.
• Assists in keeping 3rd party insurance of programme cars updated.
• Helps programme expatriates in renewing and obtaining valid driving license.
• Undertakes driving lessons with new programme expatriates to familiarise them with Ugandan traffic rules and conditions.
• Undertakes further job training related to his/her position and duties, if required.
• Carries out other tasks at the request of the superior
Qualifications
• Advanced Certificate of Education “A” Level
Details of experience
• At least 3 years of working experience as a driver, in an NGO setting with references.
• No history of major accidents within the past 3 years
