The Emerging Channels team sits at the forefront of this ambition, unlocking future-forward routes to market and reimagining how we deliver and celebrate our iconic brands.
This role is essential to growing our presence in non-traditional channels, with a strong focus on eCommerce in Uganda. These channels offer unique cultural, digital, and commercial opportunities that are pivotal to delivering Uganda Breweries Limited’s (UBL) FY30 Ambition.
About Company
UBL, a subsidiary of Diageo and part of East African Breweries, is the market leader in the Total Beverage Alcohol category in Uganda. We’re proud stewards of global icons like Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness, Tanqueray, and Baileys, as well as beloved local brands such as Bell Lager and Uganda Waragi.
Guided by our Fahari agenda, we are pushing beyond the traditional On-Trade and Off-Trade landscape positioning eCommerce as the next frontier for business growth, consumer connection, and brand visibility.
About the Role
This role will lead the development and execution of UBL’s eCommerce strategy, delivering strong commercial outcomes while creating consumer-first, culturally resonant digital experiences. You will be responsible for driving channel performance and capability, ensuring eCommerce makes a significant contribution to the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and long-term growth.
Though this role does not have direct reports, it demands strong cross-functional leadership and influence across a matrixed organization.
Key Responsibilities

- Identify emerging trends and opportunities across digital, retail, and consumer behavior, and translate them into actionable strategies.
- Shape eCommerce inputs into trade, portfolio, and route-to-market strategies.
Channel Development & Execution
- Build and execute insight-driven, scalable programs that drive traffic, basket size, and conversion across key eCommerce platforms.
- Develop compelling retail propositions and omnichannel campaigns in collaboration with brand, customer marketing, and sales teams.
- Lead the eCommerce commercial calendar and align portfolio initiatives with customer and channel priorities.
Performance & Capability Building
- Track and analyze eCommerce performance—using KPIs and M&E frameworks to drive timely interventions and course corrections.
- Champion digital content excellence (product catalogs, imagery, SEO) and coordinate with partners on assortment strategy and brand presence.
- Provide strategic guidance to sales teams and external partners to strengthen execution and joint business planning.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Work cross-functionally with commercial directors, marketing, finance, supply, legal, procurement, agency, and distributor partners to deliver end-to-end impact.
- Build strong internal and external relationships to unlock growth opportunities and solve barriers at pace.
Key Outputs and Results
- Omnichannel strategies, toolkits, and execution plans rolled out across priority accounts and platforms.
- Enhanced digital shelf presence and improved product content quality across e-retailers.
- Growth in category share, conversion rates, and customer engagement within the eCommerce ecosystem.
- Increased visibility of Diageo brands through integrated paid, owned, and earned media activations.
- Ongoing development of insights related to eCommerce consumers, shopper behavior, and competitive dynamics.
Skills & Experience Required
Must-Have:
- Bachelor's degree.
- 3–5 years of experience in eCommerce or omnichannel roles within the FMCG/CPG industry.
- Consistent track record in both commercial and marketing functions, ideally across digital or retail environments.
- Strong analytical skills and familiarity with eCommerce data tools and performance metrics.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite—especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
- Prior experience working with eCommerce retailers, marketplaces, or digital platforms in Uganda.
- Demonstrated strength in building consumer-centric programs and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience collaborating with agencies and understanding shopper behavior in digital ecosystems.
- Strong creative judgment coupled with commercial acumen.
