FHI 360 serves more than 60 countries, all 50 U.S. states and all U.S. territories. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of EpiC Uganda Knowledge Management Specialist.
Meeting Targets and Maintaining Epidemic Control (EpiC), a five-year global project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is dedicated to achieving and maintaining HIV epidemic control and preventing, preparing for, responding to, and bolstering health systems to address COVID-19. While originally designed as a HIV program, EpiC has been modified to accept COVID-19 funding and is currently are implementing COVID-19 activities in 45 countries.
In Uganda, EpiC activities will focus primarily on supporting the Ministry of Health (MOH) to improve vaccine uptake across the country to reach 70% vaccine coverage of the eligible population. Activities include COVID-19 vaccine service delivery, demand generation, surveillance and data collection, social and behavioral change activities, private sector engagement and human resource capacity development and technical assistance.
Job Summary/Responsibilities:
The EpiC Uganda Knowledge Management Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting the EpiC/Uganda program team to capture, document, manage and disseminate program results, knowledge/learning products and stories to various audiences using a variety of communication methods. The position is based in Kampala, Uganda and will report to the Senior Technical Advisor, Vaccine Service Delivery.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Closely work with the project team to identify, document, and disseminate project activities, achievements, successes, and lessons learned, utilizing a variety of communication channels;
• Work with the project team, government counterparts and other implementing partners (IPs) as well as project beneficiaries to identify, document and disseminate best practices, success stories, and lessons learned;
• Provide technical writing and editorial support to project deliverables and knowledge products.
• Provide desktop publication support to project deliverables and dissemination of products;
• On an ongoing basis, work with project teams to identify areas for documentation, collect information through interviews and on-the-ground research and observation, and determine appropriate mediums for documentation and dissemination;
• Ensure that project print, equipment and online materials are consistent with donor branding guidelines;
• Manage content on the project and FHI 360 webpage: develop and review the content, assist in the identification of relevant topic areas, and collect and disseminate best practices through the organization’s media channels;
• Monitor relevant media coverage, take photographs and videos, and maintain a photo/videography library and ensure photo/video release back-up documentation;
• Participate in Donor and implementing partners’ communication meetings as may be required
• Liaises with HQ-based EpiC Knowledge Management staff regarding opportunities and deliverables for promoting EpiC’s work in Uganda;
• Supports the Uganda technical staff to document project methodologies, achievements, and results;
• Keeps abreast of developments in the larger COVID-19 response globally.
Minimum Qualifications
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in journalism, communications, public relations, knowledge management, or a related field;
• A minimum of five years’ experience with progressively increasing responsibility in leading communications efforts for large and complex projects;
• Demonstrated experience in effectively engaging partners and in managing communications activities in a multi-partner project;
• Experience working with software packages often used for the design and layout of communications materials;
• Demonstrated skills in communications and innovation in technical practice;
• Demonstrated experience in developing communications materials for social media and digital platforms (online, tablet and phone-based communications tools);
• Articulate, professional, and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and
• Staff;
• Experience working on health programs preferred;
• Experience working on international donor funded programs an added advantage;
• Fluency in English required;
• Position open to Ugandan nationals or those residing in Uganda with the legal authority to work.

• 10-15% within Uganda
