The Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF) is a National Platform for NGOs that influence governance and development processes in Uganda and enhance their operating environment. lts constituency comprises National, Regional and international NGOs operating in different parts of the country. UNNGOF also works with a larger civil society constituency to promote citizen-based governance.
UNNGOF is seeking to recruit a competent and committed individual to fill the position of: Executive Director
Position Summary
The Executive Director is a highly — skilled not for profit professional that provides leadership, vision and direction to the broader Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGUF) in consultation with the Board of Directors‘ The Executive Director represents UNNGOF to the public, leads organizational development and strategic planning, optimizes financial performance, oversees programme delivery, builds strong relationships with donors and government, develops right partnerships with civil society organizations and oversees personnel. The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and is responsible for expanding systems and procedures to accomplish the mission and reach the strategic goals set by the Board. He/ she reports to the Chairperson, Board of Directors.
Position Profile
The Uganda National NGO Forum Executive Director must possess a passion and commitment to live to the UNNGOF mission of providing a sharing and reflection platform for Non- Government organizations (NGOs) to influence governance and development processes in Uganda and enhance their operating environment. Some of the key responsibilities include;
Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership, Programme Development and Strategic Planning
• Provide leadership in the development and achievement of the vision of the Uganda National NGO Forum and other interlinked objectives in the organizations Strategic Plan
• Lead and manage all aspects of programme and institutional development
• Oversee the preparation and management of annual organizational plans, budgets and reports as required
• Establish and or strengthen work standards and expectations, including systems and procedures to ensure productivity, cooperative working relationships, and sense of professional fulfilment amongst staff
• In collaboration with all key actors, ensure the success Of the NGO Quality Assurance Certification Mechanism
Programme and Staff Management
• Attract, develop and retain competent UNNGOF Staff Develop and foster a strong and open dialogue with the Board of Directors and UNNGOF Staff
• Maintain appropriate staffing structure; oversee recruitment, training, development and evaluation of staff (performance management)
• Provide occasional backstopping support to all UNNGOF staff to ensure they continuously learn and remain committed to the organization
Organizational Administration and Partnership
• Ensure that the organization is in compliance with the laws and guidelines governing not for profit organizations in Uganda and UNNGOF polices, standards and guidelines
• Develop and implement necessary policies and procedures
• Develop relationships with media and serve as UNNGOF's primary coiitact to market the organization and build civil society and member support.
• Maintain ethical standards and accountability, manage risks and perform due diligence, and implement operational best practices
• Foster collaboration and partnership with stakeholders including the wider civil society, government, development partners and the general public
• Enhance the profile of UNNGOF as credible, responsive and accountable
• Negotiate positions on critical national and sub — national issues that reflect the views of the rnembership and wider civil society
Fundraising
• Spearhead a robust fundraising drive to actualize at the very least the optimal financial resources required to run the organization as per the strategic plan
• ln collaboration with the Senior Management Team, develop a sustainability plan for the organization to redtice donor dependency
• Develop diverse funding streams and long term plans to best support the mission and goals of UNNGOF
• Develop collaborative projects/partnerships with other civil society organizations and or community providers
Financial Management .
• Ensure optimal financial performance that meets
• organizational and donor standards Maintain processes for proper record keeping and internal financial controls
• Assist the Board of Directors with development and management of annual budgets
• With the Treasurer and Manager, Finance and Corporate Services, review and report all financial activities to the board on a regular basis
• Review analysis of financial activities (income and expenditure) to discern trends, identify areas of improvement, address problems and develop forecasts
Experience, Qualifications and Competences
• Must possess a Master's degree in the fields of social work, development economics, political science, business management and or any other related field,
• Minimum of 15 years’ experience working with an NGO, out of which a minimum of 7 years should be at senior management level/Head of Programmes/Director.
• Should be familiar with managing large grants especially funded by DGF, USAID, EU and or Foundations.
• Good understanding of civil society, policy advocacy. governance and political economy issues in Uganda and globally.
• Demonstrated experience and ability to build and lead teams.
• Outstanding communication skills in multiple environments and with a range of audiences.
• Demonstrated experience in setting and managing budgets and financial forecasting.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions.
• Flexible and adaptable.
