Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private, not-for-profit University owned by the Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops of Uganda. it is set to host the World Bank Center of Excellence in Agro-ecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE).

The Center is looking for self motivated, dynamic and ethically upright people to fill a number of positions based at its main office at the Faculty of Agriculture, Nkozi.

Farm Manager (1 Position)

Key duties and responsibilities
Responsible for planning, organizing and managing the activities of a mixed farm. Specific tasks will include:

• Responsible for day-to-day management of the University Farm 1
  
• Provides technical advice to ACALISE leadership on strategic activities to . implement Innovations and commercialization of products ;
  
• Supervises the support staff of the Farm 1
  
• Custodian of farm equipment, machines, and all property on behalf of Z ACALISE F
  
• Planning production to maintain farm progress against set targets; .;
  
• Oversee practical activities: Malntenances of machinery and farm buildings, -: feeding livestock, and students’ practicals; 1
  
• Oversees marketing the farm's products; ,
  
• Planning activities for farm staff, trainees and interns; 1
  
• Understanding the implications of the weather and making contingency -: plans; ;
  
• Ensuring that farm activities comply with ACALISE requirements;
  
• Monitoring animal health and welfare
  
• Maintaining a knowledge of pests and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them;
  
• Applying health and safety standards across the farm estate;
  
• Protecting the environment and maintaining biodiversity;
  
• Keeping financial and other farm records up to date. ,

Qualifications and Experience
Should be a holder of a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural field preferably with a diploma in Agriculture from a recognized institution. Knowledge and a qualification in Organic Agriculture or Agro-ecology will be an added advantage. Three years of relevant experience as a Farm Manager in a large progressive farm is essential. The job requires a dynamic person, self motivated and capable to work under less supervision.
