Responsibilities
Description of the purpose of the job
• The General Manager of Business Technology will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive ICT strategy that aligns with the overall bank business strategy. He/she will be responsible for leading and managing a team of IT professionals, collaborating with business leaders to identify opportunities for innovation, ensuring the security and reliability of the bank's technology infrastructure, and keeping abreast with emerging technologies and industry trends.
• The General Manager of Business Technology shall lead the Bank into becoming a smart Bank.
• This role will consider various key aspects including but not limited to; global influences, environmental /industry demands, Centenary Bank and Group strategic missions and ambitions, and other critical aspects relating to, the fintech and telecommunication industry requirements and technologies, fluid complexities of customer expectations and demands, regulatory norms governing the bank and its partners, focus on compliance and adherence to industry standards and benchmarks.
Key responsibilities:
Strategy Development and Implementation
• Develop and execute a comprehensive digital transformation strategy that aligns with the overall business objectives of the bank. This includes identifying opportunities for innovation, assessing the impact of emerging technologies, and developing a roadmap for digital transformation.
• Provide operational direction to the team while integrating cost-efficient service delivery models. Align with Group IT strategic goals through engagement with the Executive and Group IT teams.
• Collaborate closely with teams across the Bank to provide strategic input and guidance Lead change management efforts to ensure that the bank's culture, processes, and systems are aligned with the digital transformation to build a culture of continuous improvement.
Service Delivery, Project Management, and Monitoring
• Ensure that all ICT -related projects are executed within agreed timelines, and budgets and in compliance with the approved business case to ensure value for money.
• Coordinate and monitor implementation of various IT projects in line with the existing project work plans and Service Level Agreements with stakeholders such that the technical architecture is consistent across projects and the entire Bank.
Technology Innovation & Architecture
• Identify and assess emerging technologies that can be leveraged to improve the bank's operations, customer experience, and overall performance. This includes evaluating the potential risks and benefits of new technologies, building partnerships with technology vendors, and overseeing the implementation of new solutions.
• Keep abreast with emerging technologies, development frameworks, and industry trends through research, monitoring, and innovation.
• Drive operational stability of all IT systems to ensure reliability and optimisation of the relevant infrastructure and technical operations.
Customer Experience
• Develop and implement strategies to improve the customer experience across all digital channels.
• Oversee the delivery of value to customers using customer journeys and experience through application development and execution.
• Contribute to the optimisation of user and client experience through collaboration with stakeholders to define the technology roadmap for the digital transformation strategy.
• Oversee the delivery and maintenance of the business demands within the agreed time, quality, and costs, including related revenue and cost indicators incorporated in the service level agreements for the service providers.
Strategic Business Continuity & Financial management
• Institute and implement business continuity management procedures and standards for Disaster Recovery and monitor compliance in line with the Business Plan and IT Governance and control standards
• Develop and undertake periodic review of policies, procedures, and processes. Manage information security by implementing policies and strategies for the entire Bank in line with the Bank’s Information Security Policy (ISP) and International Best practice Monitor the usage, uptime, and disposal of IT systems according to the bank’s policy.
• Advise and optimise investments and negotiate bought services to ensure value for money.
• Manage and monitor costs against budget in line with agreed parameters.
• Build and manage long-term sustainable relationships with vendors and the group to realise strategic objectives.
Performance and Talent Management
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success of the digital transformation strategy, through tracking progress against established goals, identifying areas for improvement, and reporting on performance to senior management.
• Build and manage a high-performance team of digital experts who can drive the bank's digital transformation efforts. This includes hiring and developing top talent, providing ongoing training and development opportunities, and building a culture of collaboration and innovation.
• Deliberately develop and empower a highly motivated team with ready successors for all key positions to ensure effective Succession planning for business continuity.
• Build and develop successors for critical roles to ensure growth and retention.
Risk Management
• Provide leadership and direction in the development and ongoing monitoring of IT risk management programs for the bank; primarily focusing on the identification and elimination of IT risks that may result in property loss, injury, or legal liability to the bank.
• Analyse and mitigate the bank’s exposure by utilising all techniques to lessen losses by ensuring industry best practices always (policy, procurement, and process)
• Drive and champion a positive risk culture by establishing appropriate risk oversight, governance processes, and structure.
• Participate in the relevant committees and governance forums.
Division Work plan Development
• Implementation and Monitoring Develop the annual Business Technology work plan and budgets and set benchmarks for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the planned projects against set targets to support and advance business goals and initiatives of the Bank.
• Cost optimisation to ensure the cost-income ratio is maintained at acceptable levels.
Occasional duties:
• Any additional duties that the job holder is required to carry out occasionally. Attend EXCO and management committee meetings as per business and regulatory requirements
Staff responsibility:
• Simple Organogram to show the position, the job titles of whom the jobholder reports to, and those that report directly to the jobholder.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Computer science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Security, Business computing, Statistics, Telecom Engineering, Science (with a focus on Computer Science, Math).
• Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, software engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Security, business computing, is mandatory.
• IT Enterprise Governance – COBIT or any other
• Project Management - PMP/Prince 2
• IT Security - CISSP/CISM or any other ITIL
• A Masters in any business field, e.g., MBA will be added advantage.
Details of experience
• A minimum of 10 (ten) years of working experience, 5 (five) of which MUST have been served at a Head of Department level in a reputable financial services organisation.
• Experience in IT leadership, understanding of digital and financial services operations and technology, strong communication and collaboration skills, and a track record of successful digital transformation initiatives within a reputable medium to large organisation.
