Program Description:
Having successfully completed implementation of the Phase IV NBL Agricultural Development Program on behalf of AB InBev (former SABMiller/Nile Breweries) in the districts of Kabale, Kisoro, Rubanda & Kanungu, Techno serve and NBL have extended their collaboration for an additional 12 months from 1 May 2022 through April 31 2023. Under this extension, TechnoServe will work with a total of 2,400 barley farmers, 1,800 from the 2020-2021 Phase IV cohort and 600 additional farmers from an expanded geography of sub-counties within these four districts of Kabale, Kisoro, Rubanda & Kanungu. TechnoServe will continue to use our proven farmer field school approach, incorporating adjustments to increase digital access to finance, agricultural extension support, and market information. Monitoring and Evaluation of the activities will be done in close coordination with Nile Breweries extension staff.

Position Description:
The Lead Business Advisor will Provide management of the AB InBev Barley project in Uganda. He/she will work closely with the Associate Business Advisor, local stakeholders, and sub-contractors, as well as respective country management. The Lead Business Advisor will be responsible for timely and effective implementation of project activities, achievement of the project’s goal in Uganda, and will be responsible for field activity planning and oversight, quality implementation and monitoring and evaluation of project effectiveness.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Management of program activities & resources:
• Be responsible for the implementation of activities to ensure that the program is well executed (within the agreed timelines) and that it is effective in delivering the program goals/aims.
• Be responsible and accountable for the outcomes/results of all program activities; ensuring that any challenges are communicated in time and seek support as may be needed from the program team or TechnoServe leadership.
• Be responsible for the program budget, ensure that it is properly utilized within the acceptable timelines. Ensure that requests for advances/facilitation and other logistics for the program are checked and approved in time to ensure that activities are not delayed by lack of the necessary resources.
• Develop & submit comprehensive and well thought out quarterly plans & budgets for the program, ensuring that all key activities are duly considered and that the planned activities are well organized to deliver on the program goals.
• Develop and submit accurate reports on all the progress of key program activities, including the weekly 5.15s, the quarterly Program Status Report (PSR) and Core Indicators. Ensure that these reports are well documented to support the development of the quarterly and annual donor reports.
• Understand, respect and promote TechnoServe’s values, vision and strategy in the implementation of assigned duties.
Lead the team of Associate Business Adviser & Farmer Trainers:
• Supervise the ABA, a team of Farmer trainers, and approve their periodic work plans to ensure that they conduct all the necessary activities to achieve the program aims and goals.
• Check and approve the team’s requests for facilitation and ensure that they provide accurate and complete accountabilities for all monies advanced to them.
• Share best practices and guide the team as they work with the youth and the trainers to ensure that they provide effective support to the parties under the program.
• Mentor the team to grow as leaders in their own right, boost their confidence, encourage initiative and accountability for action and results.
• Approve the Associate Business Advisor's timesheets
• Supervise any consultants or temporary staff on the project, ensuring that their work is of the desired quality
Management of stakeholders:
• Engage key stakeholders including Uganda’s National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO)’s local affiliate, KAZARDI, local sub-county or district leadership, as well as NBL staff in meetings, visits and other activities to create and strengthen beneficial relationships between the stakeholders, TechnoServe and the program.
• Properly represent TechnoServe and the program’s interests during relevant forums with private and public players to promote our mission and goals.
• Identify opportunities for additional support of the youth and women under the farmer groups or VSLAs.
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural economics, Agricultural Business Management, Co-operatives Management or related studies, 3 years’ field and technical experience with agriculture, agribusiness development, Economics, entrepreneurship OR Master's Degree plus 1 years’ experience.
• Experience working with farmers, savings groups, SME agribusiness/or farmer organizations is preferable
• Knowledge and understanding of farmer field school models, VSLA training models, or other relevant community agricultural development work, community dynamics, etc. is key

• Analysis, Research, Report Writing: Experience in business planning and analysis, modeling for feasibility and execution. Able to analyze and express oneself clearly in business writing.
