JOB DETAILS:
Role of the Job:
The role holder will be responsible for providing legal support to the various functions of the Bank, including litigation, debt recovery, contractual arrangements, and general legal advisory services.

Key Result Areas:
1. Draft and review contracts, offer letters, letters of intent, and other documents to ensure compliance with internal approvals and enforceability.
2. Manage the execution, filing, and custody of contracts and documents binding on the Bank.
3. Support the credit operations unit by reviewing specialized documentation for credit facilities, including securitization.
4. Provide proactive support to recovery teams in managing delinquent accounts.
5. Monitor and advise on matters arising from routine operations that could lead to litigation, and provide legal advice to business units to prevent avoidable litigation.
6. Oversee the Bank’s litigation portfolio, ensuring effective implementation of litigation strategies and policies.
7. Attend court on behalf of the Bank and recommend appropriate legal interventions.
8. Develop and conduct training on legal aspects and best practices for various Bank units.
9. Perform company due diligence and obligations.
10. Support timely recovery of non-performing portfolios.
11. Conduct legal due diligence on loan files before approving and disbursing loan funds.
12. Assist the Head of Legal in managing the recovery of non-performing loans.
13. Identify emerging legal risks and recommend performance measures for external service providers like auctioneers, lawyers, and court bailiffs.
14. Conduct regular legal compliance reviews to ensure adherence to statutory laws and regulations.

Required Competencies:
• Education:
o Bachelor of Laws Degree.
o Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
o Enrolled Advocate of the High Court and subordinate Courts.
• Experience:
o Minimum of 3 years in a busy law firm or commercial institution with exposure to banking and finance transactions.
o Experience in litigation, recoveries, contract negotiation, and drafting.
o Exposure to credit operations, documentation, and security perfection.
• Skills:
o Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
o Excellent legal drafting and interpretation skills.
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
o Time management and ability to work under pressure.
o Knowledge of banking, finance, corporate law, leasing/asset finance, land, mortgages, security realization, and employment laws.
