The key purpose of this role is to plan, implement and control the efficient and cost-effective procurement, storage and supply of raw materials, to optimise plant availability and to optimise the production plan for the purpose of achieving business goals. Ensure all governance processes and documentation are followed and completed. Manage physical movement of inventory and ensure this is correctly reflected in SAP. Manage production interface to ensure optimal line efficiencies are achieved. Control raw materials and finished goods inventory levels. Manage shipment intake and outtake schedules for all raw materials and finished goods. 
Manage by-products inventory levels and shipments.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Direct and manage local Malting Barley Logistics

  • Ensure all barley movements are executed to ensure timeous stocks at malting plants [Select, plan, order, monitor and intake of local barley according to Tactical Plan]
  • Co-ordinate the capture of local barley stock quantities and quality data located at co-operatives and outside storages for planning and draw-off purposes
  • Select, plan and instruct depots to transfer specific local barley lots of particular quality that will allow blend-makeup as per Tactical Plan.
  • Report any deviations to enable the update of the Tactical plan

Implement and Sustain Assigned VPO Pillars

  • Develop the VPO implementation plan based on the current plant requirements and aspirations.
  • Adhere to all VPO routines and standards
  • Utilise all the VPO problem solving tools and implement recommendations thereof.
  • Always participate in all the Zone VPO C2C and Audits for improved VPO implementation.

Plan and Schedule Malt Production

  • In line with customer malt requirements determined by Central Planning.  Execute short and medium-term production and sales plans that maximise malt production capacity utilisation whilst optimising the limited malt stock-holding capacity,
  • Align and re-schedule production on a continuous basis to meet malt requirements as frequently amended by SAB Planning, and barley trials - within the framework of the Ops Plan.

Manage Malt Sales

  • Update and communicate production plan and malt available for sale on at least a monthly basis to Central Planning
  • Prepare monthly malt age plan  (i.e. quantity of blends at 10 days and available for dispatch) to Central Planning
  • Plan, schedule and  monitor actual sales versus budget and plan and respond to any deviations
  • Identify and negotiate additional malt sales in the event of Maltings being at risk of stopping production due to insufficient storage space
  • Ensure malt consignments to SAB Ltd and exports to Africa are executed as per plan

Custodian of all Barley and Malt Stocks

  •  Ensure sufficient stock levels at all times, as planned, optimising the limited silo storage space available
  • Audit, monitor and update Maltings’ stocks and reconciliation systems
  • Manage, plan and regulate Maltings' barley stocks at outside storages and report on a monthly basis
  • Arrange barley samples for analysis from depots / outside storage
  • Investigate reconciliation irregularities regarding malt sales, production tonnes, losses, yields

Interaction with External Service Providers/Customers

  • Ensure lasting solid working relationships and healthy co-operation, co-ordination and sustainable communications are developed as the success of this position is highly reliant on the performance of numerous internal and external services and suppliers
  • Ensure and maintain excellent working relations with Central Planning [local malt supply] and Mubex
    [malt exports to Africa]
  • Keep abreast of developments and establish a sound knowledge of the transport environment
  • Optimise TFR / road transporter SLA's
  • Plan and manage daily operational transport execution
  • Ensure proper logistics by liaising with rail and road transporters on at least a weekly basis and as plans change and supply of rail wagons / road trucks deviates

Key Attributes and Competencies:

  • Strong analytical ability to convert data into valuable business insights
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good and problem-solving ability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 years degree (preferably Accountancy /supply chain management)
  •  3 years’ experience in production at a supervisory or junior management level
  • Computer literate SAP literacy advantageous
