Masindi District Farmers’ Association (Madfa) is the district farmers’ membership organization
of Masindi District. Established in 1992 as district branch of Uganda National Farmers’
Association, MADFA decentralized in 1998 to become an independent organization. Our vision statement: ''A united and empowered farming community of greater Masindi''. Madfa is committed to improving agricultural production and achieving self-reliance of poor active men and women farmers so that they may increase their incomes and livelihood in a food secure and conserved environment.
MADFA in partnership with MWH Impact investors and TRIAS Uganda is implementing a 4 year project to upgrade the maize value chain in Masindi
Job title: Marketing specialist

Job Summary: The Marketing specialist will implement all aspects of the market systems development component for the association in the programme area. The incumbent will be required to apply a wide variety of market development tools and approaches in order to catalyze innovative services and facilitate linkages between the market oriented farmer groups (SFGA/Cooperatives) and other market actors in the assigned programme areas.
Technically, the Marketing specialist will work directly with the programme manager who, in collaboration with the coordinator will determine technical strategy and work objectives for the Marketing specialist.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Planning, developing and implementing market development activities: Work in liaison with the programme manager and manager business wing, carry out assessments in the target geographic area to assess current situation, economic opportunities and needs and potential of the market oriented farmers (SFGA).Such assessments shall include but are not limited to rapid market assessments, a local competitiveness assessment, value chain analysis and development, and business support capacity needs of the market oriented farmers groups (SFGA/cooperatives) and Madfa staff. Steer the process of identification and engagement of private sector businesses to effectively work with market oriented farmer groups (SFGA).This task will include profiling businesses (for input and output markets, mapping of market oriented farmers, analyze market data on a local, regional , national level, E.Africa and International market), partnership management and mentoring and coaching.
Foster ongoing positive cooperation with relevant stakeholders including Masindi Seed and Grain Growers Limited, Madfa SACCO, and Madfa seed company and forge links between market actors, producers, end users. Carry out business negotiations, capacity building of market oriented farmers groups, conduct profitability analysis etc
Work in liaison with programme manager to ensure strengthening of market oriented SFGAs and cooperatives to improve PHH and value-added services including harvesting, drying, grading, processing and storage. Organize /facilitate business relationship between input supplier and market oriented farmers to ensure that goods and services that increase the competiveness of local production are received. Help execute related field activities to ensure that the programme results are achieved to the highest standard, and that project deliverables are completed as planned
Qualifications, Skills and Experience: The ideal candidate for the Masindi District Farmers’ Association (Madfa) Marketing specialist job opportunity should hold at least Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agri business, business administration with a bias on marketing, or other relevant field is preferred. Broad background in agri-business, with at least two years of practical experience in the private sector engagement. Previous exposure and experience with market facilitation, cooperatives, supporting systemic change and promoting supporting services is preferred. Knowledge and experience in participatory approaches in the agricultural sectors highly desirable Some practical experience in working with both very small, small and medium sized companies in a development setting, Excellent writing, communication, organization, analytical, prioritization and negotiating skills. Excellent (English) verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer literacy with a full knowledge of office applications
