JOB DETAILS:

Windle International Uganda (WIU) is an international non-governmental organisation registered in Uganda that is dedicated to providing inclusive, equitable, and quality education for refugees and host communities in 12 refugee settlements across Uganda, including urban Kampala. WIU works in partnership with the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and other education and development actors to make education accessible to refugees in Uganda.
With funding from COH (Convoy of Hope), WIU is implementing the Child Feeding Initiative (CFI), which targets children in Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Lower Primary classes. The aim is to improve attendance, retention, and learning in schools. The project also enhances nutrition and child health, decreasing morbidity for ECD and lower primary school learners.
The project is being implemented in Palorinya, Imvepi, Rhino Camp, and Kiryandongo Refugee
Settlements in the West Nile Region of Uganda. WIU, therefore, seeks to recruit a suitably qualified person to support the project in the following position:
POSITION TITLE: NUTRITIONIST
REPORTS TO: THE PROGRAM COORDINATOR AND SETTLEMENT MANAGER
DUTY STATION: Imvepi Field Office

JOB PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and monitoring the Child Feeding Initiative to enhance the impact of food and nutrition on the learners' health.
He/she will assess the nutritional value of the food provided and work to maintain its relevance to the beneficiaries’ general health. This will involve collecting and analyzing relevant data and engaging communities to sensitize them about nutrition.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct regular monitoring of the children's feeding initiative project and feeding sessions in all targeted primary schools.
• File termly data sheet with beneficiary weights and measurements for submission to the donor.
• Compile and assess data relating to the health and nutritional status of learners based on nutritional values of food served or consumed during the nutrition assessment
• Plan and conduct intervention programmes and train project participants (parents, teachers, and learners) to improve nutritional levels and enhance communities' knowledge of nutrition generally.
• Timely requests for food items and other project equipment periodically to ensure the smooth running of the project
• Work with schools and field teams to ensure that stored foods are safe and free from contamination and theft and that the store is clean at all times
• Coordinate with health partners and facilities to provide learners with nutrition supplements and deworming services.
• Identify and evaluate food and nutrition products to meet nutritional requirements
• Support and supervise the preparation and serving of fortified meals to learners while paying specific attention to the quality of the food provided.
• Develop guidelines and standard operating procedures for the Schools’ implementation of the project
• Participate in project planning, including developing work plans, submitting funding requests,
• procuring project supplies and equipment, and developing activity budgets.
• Prepare timely periodic reports (weekly and quarterly), including documentation of
• achievements, activities implemented, and results according to the project log frame.
• Provide input and support in developing learning documents, including learning reviews, success stories, and stories of change.
• Participate in community sensitization and stakeholder meetings to explain project objectives and keep them appraised of project(s) activities being implemented in the target area.
• Participate in project reviews as planned under the project, including updating indicators
• Design and implement nutrition programs that prioritize vulnerable populations, including children and individuals with disabilities,
• Develop and disseminate nutritional information to both school and community populations.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
• S/he must possess a Diploma in Human Nutrition or Dietetics studies or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
• Must have at least 2 years of relevant experience with fieldwork in a health and nutrition implementation project (provide adequate details in resume).
• Must possess a Class A Driver’s Permit and the ability to ride a motorcycle
