De Heus Animal Nutrition is a fourth-generation Dutch family business
that has grown into a major global player with over 10,000 employees. De
Heus is large in Europe and Asia and is growing fast in Africa. It is a top-
ten animal nutrition company globally.
De Heus produces animal feed for a wide variety of livestock. It has over
80 production locations in 20 countries, serves over 75 countries, and
sells over 12 million tons of feed annually.
In Uganda, De Heus is best known for its brand Koudijs. De Heus will start
local animal feed production in Uganda and Kenya to extend its business in East Africa.
The new plant in Uganda will produce fish feed for Tilapia farms in East Africa. By joining, you would helpkickstart aquaculture and participate in the creation many jobs in fish farms and among our suppliers(farmers of soy, maize, and other agricultural raw materials), improve food security, and substitute import with export.
For our new organization in Uganda, we are looking for a:
Procurement manager
What is your role?
You are in charge of the procurement team and are responsible for staying on top of raw materials and overall company needs. You seek out reliable and quality suppliers and negotiate reasonable prices on orders. You communicate proactively with the formulations team in the head office in the Netherlands and the local team members from different departments, such as quality, production, and sales. This role involves strategic planning, supplier relationship management & negotiation, cost control, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality materials.
As this company is just starting up, the role will shift from laying the groundwork and recruiting team
members to managing the procurement cycle day to day.
This role reports to the Managing Director of Uganda and works closely with the formulations team based in the Netherlands. You will also have to work closely with the Purchase & Sustainability
Manager shared between Uganda, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Your key responsibilities are to:
• Develop and implement effective purchasing strategies to ensure a reliable supply of raw
materials.
• Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and service.
• Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to secure the best possible deals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
• Conduct regular supplier audits with the quality team to ensure compliance with company
standards and expectations.
• Address and resolve any issues or disputes with suppliers promptly regarding differences in
payment, quantities, quality, etc.
• Analyse procurement data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. Monitor
market trends and conditions to anticipate price fluctuations and supply risks.
• Prepare and present regular reports on procurement performance, cost savings, and supplier
performance.
• Develop and implement inventory control procedures to ensure accurate tracking and reporting.
• Contracting transporters for raw material pick-up and delivery to the factory
• Make sure all correct documentations (receipts, attachments, withholding tax documents, etc)
are made available to the finance department
What do we expect from you?
You need to be structured, highly motivated, good with numbers, and good with people. This job
demands strong communication skills and attention to detail.
Our ideal candidate:
• Has a degree in purchasing & logistics, supply chain management, or a related field, with at
least five (5) years of experience in a similar role, of which three should have been in a senior
office or management role
• Is highly organized, efficient, and proactive. Committed to ethical purchasing practices and
sustainability.
• Is knowledgeable in market research, data analysis, and forecasting techniques.
• Is confident and an assertive self-starter. Has strong problem-solving, conflict-handling, and
negotiation skills.
• Has a working knowledge of current legislation on Procurement
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI

Location
At the plant in Njeru (near Jinja) or in Kampala, with regular trips in between.
