JOB DETAILS:
Mental Health Uganda in Partnership with CBM UK and Time to Change TTC are looking for a suitable candidate to work as a Project Co-Ordinator.
Job Title: Project Co-Ordinator
Reporting to: Executive Director
Responsible for: No direct reports but will be responsible for volunteer champions trained through the project.
Key relationships: MHU staff including leadership at the secretariat, project Champions, as well as the CBM Programme Officer, and Time To
Change Global programme staff.
Location: Kampala, with regular local travel and possibly an international event
Hours per week: 8:30am- 5:00pm (full-time).
Salary: Commensurate to experience, knowledge and skills
Start date: As soon as possible
End date: 31 March 2020
Job Purpose:
This project is part of an international pilot working to address mental health stigma and discrimination. This will involve working with and through volunteer Champions who will lead Social Contact events. In these events people with personal experiences of mental health problems share those experiences with members of the public with the underlying aim of challenging stigmatizing attitudes and behaviors. .
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
• Produce quarterly reports on activity, budget and any other issues.
• Identify and recruit local people with personal experience of mental health problems who feel ready to be trained and supported to deliver local anti-stigma campaigning activity, drawing on existing peer support groups run by MHU as well as people in the wider community
• Facilitate training of Champions in the Social Contact approach, with the support of the Time to Change team
• Provide day-to-day mentoring support to the local Champions around their training and social contact activities throughout the length of the pilot
• Provide day-to-day logistical support to the Champions, such as helping with communications, organizing meetings and enabling access to meeting rooms, internet and email, printing facilities, organizing transport, storage, parking, insurance, assisting tailoring materials for local use
• Co-ordinate planning for social contact events within the communities in which Champions live
• Work with the Champions to organize the local activities, providing a supportive environment for them to engage the public in ‘social contact’
• Work with the CBM office in Uganda to coordinate Social Contact events, budgeting, monitoring and reporting.
• Work with the Time to Change team to design local campaign materials
• Work with the Time to Change Team and appointed agencies to research and deliver the marketing campaign messaging and creative, helping to maximize its audience reach and impact
• Support the evaluation of programme activities by providing advice on the tailoring of evaluation tools, participating in the evaluation themselves and encouraging champions to participate
• Provide logistics support for in-country visits by the Time to Change Global team.
Essential criteria:
• Previous or relevant experience of project management including delivering projects on time and to budget
• Strong budget management experience including forecasting and monitoring expenditure
• Experience of reporting writing to funders using reporting templates
• Experience of working at community level with people who have experienced mental health problems, to challenge stigma and discrimination.
• Experience of workshop/training design and facilitation, with a clear understanding of the factors that influence training outcomes at community level and the ability to support staff who deliver such training
• Experience of organizing and delivering community engagement events including planning and logistics.
• Experience of partnership working, with demonstrable skills of collaborative working, and relationship management and the ability to identify and rapidly resolve barriers, difficulties and conflicts.
• Ability to create and maintain a supportive environment at trainings and events and have knowledge and experience of recognizing and responding to personal wellbeing issues
• Good empathy, perception and listening skills
• Ability to make effective use of available resources and materials
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to identify and address problems
• Experience of multi-tasking, prioritizing competing work and working to deadlines
Desirable criteria:
• Knowledge and understanding of mental health issues and mental health policy in Uganda.
• Experience of communicating programme results
• Experience of programme monitoring and evaluation
• Direct or indirect experience of mental health problems and openness to being a visible ambassador for people with mental health issues, using your personal experiences as appropriate to do so.
• Good level of English
• Good IT Skills with familiarity with MS Word and Excel
Person specifications:
• Degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Community Development, Community psychology or project management
• minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in a civil society organization.
• A postgraduate education in any of the related fields will be an advantage.
