JOB DETAILS:
What we are looking for
The purpose of the Protection Officer is to implement the day-to-day of the Outreach activities. The Protection Officer will be managing community mobilization activities which includes creating and maintaining strong relationships with external partners, and community members. The primary goal is to enhance awareness of NRC, promote its mission, and foster collaboration within the community. He/she will be reporting to the Protection Team leader. The position will be based in Kampala.

RESPONSIBILITIES
What you will do
Generic responsibilities:
• Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
• Implement delegated PfV project portfolio according to the plan of action.
• Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
• Ensure proper filing of documents.
• Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need and explore and asses new and better ways to assist.
• Promote and share ideas for technical improvement.
• Develop status reports as required by management.

Specific responsibilities:
• Develop and implement outreach plans to connect with diverse communities and individuals.
• Ensure that beneficiaries receive up-to-date information and are aware of the assistance available in the NRC community centre/ Access centre and the area.
• Under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator, collaborate with local organizations, members of the community, and institutions to enhance community engagement.
• Under the supervision of the Protection Coordinator, attend community events, and gatherings to represent NRC and build relationships.
• Support Protection Coordinator in establishing the NRC community centre (identification of the centre, installing equipment, furniture etc.)
• Support the establishment and maintenance of coordination mechanisms and coordination tools (e.g., stakeholder and service mapping etc.).
• Promote, and assist with the referral, complaint & feedback mechanism for the affected population.
• Ensure that gender and protection mainstreaming are carried out at the field level by all staff and throughout all activities.
• In collaboration with the Protection Coordinator, prepare Procurement Requests, payment lists, attendance sheets, reports, etc.
• Set and oversee schedules for service delivery and effective communication with the community for when and where services will be happening.
• Build and maintain trust relationships with target communities.
• Advocate for the needs of vulnerable individuals internally through evidence-based advocacy.
• Maintain an up-to-date service mapping of the service providers operating in the area and ensure that protection staff are informed about the available services.
• Contribute to the identification and internal referral of individuals/households with specific needs and/or vulnerabilities, with special focus on children, youth, women and other at-risk groups.
• Compile information collected by team members and prepare periodic protection reports, and attend meetings as required.
• Prepare and submit reports and work plans in a timely manner.
• Support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools and report on problems in the implementation of the Programme.
• Undertake Assessment using the Community based Protection tools to inform responsive programming.
• Undertake case management through Risk based identification processes to inform responsive interventions.

QUALIFICATIONS
What you will bring
Generic professional competencies:
• University degree in Social Work, Psychology, Law, Social Policy, Social Sciences, Anthropology, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience implementing, supervising, monitoring and evaluating field-based protection from violence with an NGO, particularly focusing on the people we serve ’s rights, preferably in an emergency setting.
• Experience from working as a Project Officer in a humanitarian organization or social work environment.
• Previous experience working in complex or volatile contexts.
• Previous experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset.
• English proficiency both written and verbal.
• Excellent capacity to plan, prioritize and multitask, attention to detail.
• Excellent team-working skills.
• Flexible and adaptable and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
• Excellent computer literacy, including MS Office (Word and Excel); Other digital skills appreciated.
• Ideally experience in a project implementation position in an NGO or UN agency.
• Good reporting and coordination skills.
• Excellent cultural awareness, empathy, and sensitivity
• Highly approachable, trustworthy, and confidential.
• Ability to work independently whenever required.
