On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Cost and management accountant to work in Kampala Uganda.

Job roles and responsibilities
The overall purpose of the job is to oversee and analyze the costing structures of the company’s businesses, expenditures, and purchases. The job holder will compile and present financial reports that give managers insights into the company’s performance including the ongoing analysis of product cost, development of new product costs, and margin analysis. S/he will also work closely with the Sales & Marketing Manager, and the Senior Accountant to establish the appropriate customer pricing. The job holder will review services and goods, record data, and make projections and recommendations that promote cost-efficiency and financial feasibility. Specifically, the job holder will be responsible for:
• Developing cost standards for materials and labor,
• Designing and implementing cost accounting systems
• Analyzing production costs and recommending changes
• Overseeing annual physical inventory
• Recording, analyzing, and synthesizing numbers, with the view of providing guidance on decisions regarding investments, risk management, budgeting, planning, and strategy formulation.
• Reviewing the cost operational data with the view of identifying inconsistencies and irregularities in operational costs and budgets.
• Supporting budgeting and funding
• Assisting the company in managing its investment portfolio
• Assuming responsibility for accounting procedures
• Evaluating the company’s performance using key data
• Making forecasts to assist business planning and decision-making
• Conducting risk assessment and advise on the ways to minimize the risk
• Advising on problems and suggest improvements
• Designing and/or improving cost management processes and using appropriate costing methodologies to recognize, determine, accumulate, and report costs of activities.
• Analysing costing information and collaborating with sales and finance teams to establish customer pricing.
• Processing monthly provisions, amortizations, and adjusting journals as approved by the Finance Manager.
• Managing the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Responsible for journals postings and revaluations
• Preparing and managing the audit cycles and reports as well as overseeing all action items.
• Maintaining an accounting program, which includes, but is not limited to managerial and cost accounting as well as participating in the budget planning, payroll processes, and forecasting for the Company.
• Analysing examining and interpreting accounting data, records, and reports to determine past costs, identifying improperly recorded costs, and reallocating the cost to ensure they are recorded in the appropriate cost structure.
• Furnishing advice and assistance to management on accounting and financial management matters, analyses information,
• Assisting in resolving conflicting data, and/or formulating recommendations for management decisions.
• Applying appropriate costing methodologies, developing and/or improving upon existing cost accounting data to provide accurate and timely financial information that will satisfy informational requirements.
• Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of approved and directed procedural and cost management changes
• Analysing the internal controls in manufacturing/processing procedures and recommending improvements as needed.
• Reviewing month-end production reports, including labour and overhead summaries comparing actual to standard costs for the management team to take data-driven decisions
• Collecting and analyzing data about a company’s operational costs
• Setting standard costs of manufactured goods
• Developing and analyzing cost standards
• Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, including for small businesses
• Establishing costs of business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, etc.
• Performing account reconciliations
• Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management
• Recommending changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit
• Advising executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data
• Managing the company’s balance sheet and accounting books
• Supporting other company accountants with invoicing and capital expenditure
• Preparing Monthly Work Plans and Performance Reports necessary for executing the above duties and responsibilities
• Undertaking any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor.
Key academic qualifications
The job requires a high sense of maturity with vast relevant knowledge in the areas of costing and management accounting systems and processes. In addition, the job requires the following academic qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in any of the following; Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Computing/ Statistics, and/or Business Administration or any other relevant discipline from a recognized University.
• Possession of relevant Professional qualifications like; CIMA, CPA, ACCA, CFA CIA, etc.
• Possession of a Master’s degree in a Business-related field from a recognized University.
Working experience and other relevant skills
The job requires a person with vast practical and relevant working experience of at least 7 years, 3 of which should have been at a supervisory level in a reputable organization. The job holder shall have:
• Demonstrate experience in managing and analyzing costs and developing projections,
• Demonstrable thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and principles
• Demonstrable in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Thorough demonstration of the application of computer accounting software, including ERPs
• Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail
• Strong time management skills
• Integrity, with an ability to handle confidential information
• Strong Communication & Interpersonal skills
