About This Job:
Q-Sourcing Limited trading as Q-Sourcing Servtec is a manpower management solutions firm operating in the East African Region in the countries of Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and South Sudan.
On behalf of our client, we are looking for a competent, skilled, and experienced Software service and maintenance engineer to work in Kampala Uganda.
Job Title: Software Service and Maintenance Engineer
Reports to:

Job roles and responsibilities:
The overall purpose of the job holder is to diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems, resolve network issues, and configure operating systems to provide immediate support to the company and its clients. Specifically, the job holder will be expected to:
• Execute recurring 1st and 2nd Level software support and maintenance tasks.
• Manage corrective software maintenance, incident root cause analysis, and repairing equipment to resolve software incidents within the defined SLAs.
• Lead and or participate in all activities that involve software development and management
• Oversee the development of documentation and manage all software releases
• Monitor the system performance after each software release.
• Manage all test and reference systems for testing new software and fixing bugs.
• Escalate issues in a timely manner to the software development team in case problems cannot be solved on your own.
• Represent company in forums that regard ICT deliberations
• Update the company and its clients on the status of their ICT infrastructure.
• Perform regular and periodic preventive maintenance tasks on installed software, with the goal of maintaining its overall health and performance status.
• Create and update daily, weekly, and monthly software maintenance procedures.
• Ensure compliance with national health and safety legislation/ policies.
• Be the tactical contact person/ supervisor for the out-sourced software service providers
• Carry out any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor

Key Academic qualifications:
The job requires the following academic qualifications:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology/ Systems, or any other relevant field from a recognized University.
• Certification from any relevant professional bodies.
• A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage
• Other relevant technical skills:
• Basic scripting, programming, and coding
• PC and Mac systems and other mobile operating systems
• Knowledge-based systems (KBS)
• Java
• C, C++, JavaScript, Python, or similar scripting languages
• Linux/Unix
• Microsoft SQL, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
• NoSQL databases
• Remote software
• Cyber security
• Virus protection software
• Backup software
• Network monitoring software
• LAN
• WAN

Working experience and other relevant skills
The job requires someone with at least 5 years of practical working experience in software engineering or software development and operations experience, preferably in an IT-driven organization.
• Familiarity with recent developments in the IT field/ industry
• Hands-on programming experience using relevant languages. Preferably Net, Java, PL/SQL scripting
• Experience using relevant tool suites.
• Experience working with clients and business partners.
• A comprehensive understanding of computer science concepts.
• Excellent coding skills.
• Extensive knowledge of agile methodologies e.g., Scrum
• Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills
• Ability to work independently on complex software tasks and under pressure
