JOB DETAILS:

• Child Sponsorship is a critical component of PIU's strategy and it is, therefore, essential for the Sponsorship systems to be managed effectively. The job holder acts as a champion for child sponsorship programme in the Programme Area and provides valued support to Field teams so that they are able to deliver against PIU’s Sponsorship Commitments, Policies and Procedures.

Role Dimensions:
• The purpose of this role to provide overall PIU Coordination and Execution of sponsorship Community Engagements and ensuring integration/alignment with Programs and Grants in a manner that contributes to enhanced child wellbeing within Standards and Support the safe and successful progression of children into adulthood/graduation.
• The post holder will be responsible for developing guidelines and strengthening Community engagements and structure, child & family participation & benefit, Sponsorship Alumni Networks, strengthening community Structures models (Community Volunteer Associations & Family Support Groups), providing guidelines and strengthening case management/protection and working with Sponsorship manager and Business Development Manager in developing alternative sponsorship models and concepts for increased sponsorship funding.
• The position takes part in budgeting but is not responsible for managing a budget; indirectly, the quality of communications impacts the continued commitment of sponsors and can, therefore, effect fundraising.
• The position involves a degree of complexity in resolving a wide range of sponsorship programming and management related challenges. The post holder will demonstrate the ability work in cross functional teams, to pay attention to detail and solve problems in a very prompt manner. The Post holder will also ensure adherence to policies and procedures, and promoting a culture for delivery of results, both short and long term.

• This position has been classified as “high contact”: Significant interaction with children
• Key result areas:

KRA 1: Sponsorship Planning, Initiation, Integration with Projects and Grants
• Alignment between sponsorship, programs and grants to meet Plan 9 commitments and where the sponsorship participant allocation is not aligned well with donor priorities and opportunities to leverage grants, shall develop plans to increase alignment as far as possible in the local context
• Lead the Sponsorship Feasibility and Risk assessments
• Work with Technical Advisors & Business Development Manager to align sponsorship with new onboarding projects
• Work with Sponsorship manager and Business Development Manager to develop new sponsorship models
• Work with project team to ensure effective targeting of Sponsored children and families
• Support implementation, Monitoring and provide periodical Sponsorship Program progress update reports.
• Support designing of the Sponsorship Integrated Program Plans, Log frames and budgets and ensure activity planning for all Programme Areas (PAs)
• Support Community Managed Sponsorship Model processes through community engagement and accountability, ensuring establishment and functionality of local community structures and engagement of partners.
• Participate in PA program reviews, evaluations and Baseline surveys

KRA 2: Participation, Protection & benefit
• Manage Participation, protection and benefit of sponsored children and their families through Plan Uganda programs and Sponsorship Models
• Provide guidance and ensure establishment of child participation Centers in existing institutions and ECD Centers in all PIU PA communities.
• Ensure functionality of the Child participation Centers and monitor compliance to Standards.
• Develop and coordinate key Sponsorship Quarterly and annual Child participation events plans and ensure roll out in all Child participation Centers.
• Provide guidelines to PAs in planning for age-appropriate Life sustaining skills for Sponsored Children
• Ensure and guide monitoring and reporting of periodical Sponsored Child (SC) & family participation and benefit
• Work with Sponsorship Manager and Technical Advisor Safeguarding to develop child protection and case management standards and framework
• Provide guidance and capacity building of staff in child protection and case management in sponsorship program
• Analyse and Share periodical SC wellbeing reports with Technical Advisors, support development of appropriate actions and case management.
• Build capacity of Staff and Volunteers in Child Engagement and protection of Children in fun and meaningful activities in the child participation centres.
• Work with Influencing and advocacy teams to ensure sponsored children participate in community, national and global advocacy activities and events
• Promote children rights in sponsorship and ensure Plan’s policy on safeguarding the rights of children and young people is adhered to by all associates

KRA 3: Empowerment, Sustainability & Accountability
• In liaison with the respective technical specialists and the Programme Area Manager, carry out capacity building of communities; aiming to ensure that the benefits of PIU's intervention will continue after the project is over:
• Develop and share guidelines and reporting on effective community dialogues and accountability
• Support and guide the formation of the Community Volunteer Associations and Family Support Groups
• Ensure functionality and monitor the performance of sponsorship community structures-Community Volunteer Associations and Family Support Groups
• Ensure and support capacity building of community volunteer associations and Family support Groups to manage their own inclusive planning process and have a Community Development Plan (CDP) as well as ownership of the programmes and projects.
• Ensure Community Volunteer Associations are equipped with tools and skills in SC participation, Engagement, safeguarding and other basic sponsorship trainings.
• Support PAs to develop and monitor and report on accountability framework in sponsorship

KRA 4: Sponsorship Alumni management
• Develop and strengthen the Sponsorship Alumni association in the country- building relations with former sponsored children and programme participants, production of publications, e-communications, data management, event management, and volunteer stewardship.
• Build the Alumni Network and Identify areas/ projects that alumni can be involved in and promote services via online social networking sites such as the Plan International’s own site, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, and to develop new ways of leveraging these methods of engagement
• Engage and collaborate effectively with other Alumni Networks and youth movements in WACA and
• MEESA for alignment and consolidated efforts to increase impact in the achievement of children’s rights
• and equality for girls.
• Analyse results and feedback from the Alumni and share the findings with the project team
• Provide support to Sponsorship Alumni volunteers regarding their offers of help to Plan International,
• for example with visits, guest lectures and engagement with supporter/private donor recruitment and
• the community experiences.
• Maintain the database of alumni information, including personal contact details and employment
• information, in line with the data protection regulations.
• Contribute in the collection of success stories and cases studies as well as engaged photos collection for the regional project team members.
• Share opportunities with the group – such as local job opportunities, capacity building opportunities

KRA 5: Programme Area Technical Support & Accountability
Collaborate with the PAC to lead those involved in Sponsorship Activities (both matrix-managed programme implementation staff and the Sponsorship Community Engagement Officer) in a manner that empowers them to contribute effectively towards achievement of PIU’s strategy and sponsorship KPIs:
Lead and manage the team towards high standards of performance through clear roles & responsibilities and provision of appropriate support; produce for each frontline staff a to-do list reminder every Monday to ensure that all new due communications are attended to
Facilitate awareness creation and raising in PIU’s sponsorship areas in particular and Plan’s work in general in new areas

Develop Capacity Building Plan for assigned PAs
• Monitor and assess capacity needs of staff
• Submit training program for Sponsorship staff to the SM, Programme Area Coordinator, conduct the training, or outsource trainers and report back after delivery of the training; deliver the sponsorship training for field and sponsorship staff, as per the Sponsorship Book
• Coordinate all sponsorship initiatives trainings and roll out across the PA
Management of Sponsorship Performance in accordance to Plan business rules.
• Support teams to achieve all sponsorship key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Support teams to deliver as per monthly and quarterly production schedules.
• Ensure monthly PA sponsorship Report submission to SM
Foster an inclusive environment by implementation of policies and ways-of-working that provide for diversity and equal opportunities and utilisation of a leadership style that will drive employee engagement
Develop and encourage staff who directly report to the Sponsorship Coordinator position through on-going staff development and career management; proactively address poor performance through timely constructive feedback, coaching and appropriate corrective action
Participate in internal and external Peer Reviews annually or as prescribed by PIU Policy.

KRA 6: Safeguarding, Gender Equality & Inclusion
• Ensure that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Role Requirements:
• Qualifications
• A University Degree in social sciences, management, education, development studies or any other related technical field. Diploma in Project Planning and Management is desirable. Prior knowledge in child sponsorship is necessary.
• At least 3 years’ experience in development related work.
