JOB DETAILS:
Chemonics seeks a Chief of Party for the anticipated USAID/ Uganda Social and Behavior Change for Transformation activity (SBC4T) based in Kampala, Uganda. SBC4T’s purpose is to improve the ability of individuals, households, and communities to adopt priority behaviors through social and behavior change and, in turn, to facilitate the transformation of households, communities, and systems for improved health and development outcomes, The chief of party will be responsible for the project's management and implementation; reporting directly to the designated USAID contracting officer‘s representative. Supervising project implementation, the chief of party will ensure that the project meets stated goals and reporting requirements. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.


Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership, management, and technical direction to strengthen social and behavior change activities and improve health outcomes through increased adoption of priority behaviors at every level in Uganda
  • Serve as the primary liaison with USAID, implementing partners, the Ugandan government, key governmental and non-governmental institutions and actors, and project stakeholders and counterparts in the public and private sectors
  • Supervise the senior management team, technical and administrative staff, and subcontracting organizations
  • Direct implementation of project activities and liaise with project teams to ensure technical coordination
  • Collaboratively create and implement a strategic, long-term programmatic vision
  • Ensure all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate
  • Oversee project work planning, performance management, and strategic communications
  • Identify issues and risks related to project implementation in a timely manner and make appropriate program adjustments

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in public health, communications, social and behavior change, social sciences, international development, or a related field required
  • At least 15 years of professional experience managing large, complex health projects in developing countries; at least 10 years of experience working on social and behavior change programs in Uganda
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale social and behavior change activities in Uganda
  • Demonstrated experience applying social and behavior change approaches in and beyond the health sector; experience with human-centered design and behavioral economics preferred
  • Record of increasing responsibility in programs of similar scale, scope, and complexity, including at least 10 years of experience providing senior-level leadership (e.g., as a chief of party, project director, or deputy director) USAID experience preferred
  • Strong ability to collaborate and build partnerships with host- country governments, U.S. government agencies, donor agencies, and international organizations
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in Ugandan languages preferred
