Established in 1988, the MRC/ UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is an internationally recognized Center of excellence for research on HIV infection and related diseases, contributing knowledge on the evolving epidemic the evaluation of innovative health care options, treatment and prevention, and the development of health policy and practice in Africa and worldwide.The Unit's head ofiices are located at the Uganda virus Research Institute Entebbe Campus, and the main research activities in Masaka, Kalungu. Kampala and wakiso districts including the peri-urban areas of Entebbe.
The Unit is now seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to fill the following position:
Role Position: Post-doctoral Scientist
Reporting to: Senior immunologist, Immunity and Vaccines Theme
The trial on which the successful candidate will work aims to determine whether increasing the frequency of praziquantel treatment to 2 or 4 times a year reduces the prevalence of periportal liver fibrosis observed by ultrasound within school children in Hoima District. Exploratory outcomes will include investigations into the host immune response and the parasite genetics, to determine causes of the persistent morbidity observed.The trial aims to enroll 600 school children aged between 6 and l4 years of age. It will last for two-years. The FibroScHot trial will be run to international standards, complying with the international Council on Harrnonisation Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines
Job Purpose: The post holder will play a key role in generation and analysis of host immunological exploratory outcomes.
Some Key Responsibilities: 1. immune sample management from field through to final analysis and safe disposal. 2. Peripheral blood sample preparation in the field laboratory ensuring that the processes undertaken and the preservation and storage results in excellent quality sample for immunological analysis.Visit the website for details.
