• Skilled in Microsoft software packages (especially MS Excel, MS Word, Power point), Audit software among others
Responsibilities
Over all Purpose
• The Senior Accountant will oversee the Finance and Accounts functions. The incumbent will be tasked with the preparation of periodical accounts, budgets, etc.
Main Tasks
• He/she will be directly involved in reporting, budgeting, and planning function, along with assessment of current systems to ensure their appropriateness and implementing improvements.
• Overseeing cash book preparation, prepare bank reconciliations and key reconciling transactions and then advise on any necessary adjustments or Changes as part of period closure.
• Balancing and preparation of trial balance-monthly, quarterly, and annually key to preparation of management accounts and annual accounts.
• Reviewing commissions paid and deducted at source schedules-tying them back to the general ledger.
• Posting journal vouchers in the system to ensure completeness and accuracy of all non-cash transactions.
• Reviewing the insurance claims Paid schedule with CNs offsets ensuring that the same ties back to the general ledger.
• Managing compliance with Insurance Regulators including but not limited to; Quarterly management and Revenue accounts returns, Broker returns, UIA returns, BOU returns, IIU returns, FIA returns and IRA annual returns.
• Preparation of daily and weekly finance reports to management.
• Taking lead in insurance premium collections and come up with a weekly report on the same.
• Extracting monthly debtors list for both direct clients and brokers plus reconciliation statements and monitor follow up by finance and sales team.
• Monitoring actual revenue and expenses against the budget and advise management accordingly monthly.
• Ensuring timely processing of payments for suppliers in accordance with company policy of 2 weeks from receipt of supplier invoice.
• Reviewing quarterly underwriting and claims bordereaux and agree/reconcile the figures to system.
• Preparing quarterly treaty and revenue accounts for submission to reinsurers/reinsurer brokers within 30 days from end of the quarter.
• Ensuring in timely preparation of the audited accounts within 2/3 months from the end of the financial year.
• Performing any other duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
• A minimum of bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting or Business Administration from a recognized university.
• Preferably he/she should hold professional accounting qualifications i.e. ACCA / CPA.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in auditing or accounting work.
