To Support The Development of Collaborative Resource Access and Use Agreements between Uganda Wildlife Authority and Communities Around the Immaramagambo Protected Area
WWF-UCO is implementing two projects with funding support from SIDA and DANIDA named SANIDA program under the Forests & Biodiversity program
The Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL) is one of the richest ecosystems in the world in terms of species diversity and endemism and has been described as one of the biodiversity hotspots on the African continent with eight national parks, four forest reserves and three wildlife reserves. Two (2) of the national parks are internationally recognized under the United Nations system (UNESCO) as World Heritage Sites namely Bwindi INP and Rwenzori MNP Parts of Queen Elizabeth and Rwenzori National Parks are internationally recognized as Ramser Sites and Queen Elizabeth is internationally recognized as a Man and Biosphere Reserve. The GVL is home to the only remaining and endangered population of mountain gorillas.
Scope and objective:
The programme has planned to support two community groups around Immaramagambo forest, one in Kanyabwanga sub-county in Mitooma district and another in Ruhinda/Bwambara sub-counties in Rukungiri district respectively. These groups need to be supported so as to secure their rights to access and use forest resources through a legally acceptable and recognized approach that emphasizes their role and responsibility to maintain the integrity of the forest but will also be supported and appreciated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Overall objective is to guide communities in the two areas through processes particularly situational analysis, resource assessment and meaningfully negotiations with UWA for access and use rights culminating into signing resource use agreements.

The Terms of Reference document will be issued to interested parties from 21st July 2020, at 11:00am, till 28th July 2020, 11:00am, strictly. Late requests will not be honored.
