Background
This Wellcome-funded programme will provide interdisciplinary PhD training in global health to 25 outstanding UK health professionals, supported by partner institutions in the UK and Africa. The CREATE PhD Programme will also train a matched cohort of exceptional 25 African early career researchers, creating a blended cohort of South-North fellows. This unique group of 50 PhD fellows will benefit from sharing of knowledge, ideas and training opportunities, building a mutually supportive community of fellows. The MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is one of the African partner institutions.
We are now recruiting two African PhD fellow to be based at the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit.
The projects
There are five open projects available for fellowships. Candidates for project UG2301 will have one slot whereas the remaining projects (UG2302, UG2303, UG2304 and UG2305) will also compete for one slot. Please refer to the attached available PhD Projects Table for additional information. You are advised to contact the supervisors before you start completing the application form.
Fellow eligibility
Applicants must be nationals of an African country and be suitably qualified to enter a PhD programme at the respective universities. We expect that the successful applicant will have a track-record of academic excellence, with a first class or upper second class (or equivalent) undergraduate degree and a relevant Master’s degree. Applicants who do not have these qualifications but believe that they have equivalent relevant research experience should explain this clearly in the application form.
Award details
The fellowship award will cover tuition fees, stipend, research costs, travel and training.
