Windle International Uganda (WIU) formerly Windle Trust Uganda (WTU) is a registered International NGO whose primary mission is to equip refugees and others affected by conflict in Africa to meet the challenges of development through providing access to education, training and employment opportunities by advocacy and direct programme activity. WIU has been a leading provider of access to university education, post-primary education, Primary Education and vocational training for conflict-affected Africans since 1996.

In partnership with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), WIU seeks to recruit suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant positions that exist at Nakivale Secondary School in Nakivale Refugee Settlement - Isingiro District.

Job Title: Secondary Trained Teacher (02 Positions)
Organization: Windle International Uganda (WIU)
Funding Source: United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR)
Reports to: Head Teacher


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Intuitively prepares the schemes of work and lesson plans in line with approved curriculum on termly and weekly basis.
  • Conducts lessons and remedial work according to the set timetable.
  • Actively participates in setting, administering and marking internal and external examinations.
  • Perform continuous assessment and evaluation of student performance.
  • Keeps and maintains class records / inventory (Registers, records of work, progress reports and equipment.)
  • Guides and counsels students / learners.
  • Actively plan and co-ordinate co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  • Performs any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.
    Person Specifications: Qualification & Experience
  • The Trained secondary teacher should possess a minimum of Bachelor in Education - Secondary or the equivalent from a recognized Institution.
  • The candidate must also be registered with the Ministry of Education, Sports, Science and Technology.
  • At least two teaching subjects; Chemistry/Biology , English / Literature
  • Minimum of Two (2) years of teaching experience preferred gained from a busy school environment.

  • Academic ability as well as an ability to understand and communicate with those who struggle in education.
  • A desire to work with the children/young adults affected by conflict.

  • Ability to work under pressure and to the deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Leadership skills with strong ability to devolve responsibilities.
