JOB DETAILS:
The National Science, Technology, Engineering and Innovation Centre (NSTEIC) was created to enhance the technological and skill base of Ugandan graduates, craftsmen, technicians and engineers as well as instructors through the Flexible Factory Learning & Infrastructure Model covering the technology areas of construction engineering (including construction machinery technology & civil engineering technology), automotive technology, agricultural mechanization, industrial technology, metallurgy (especially. precision welding), and electronic & electrical R&D. The Centre responds to the need to create more jobs especially for the youth, improve on the competitiveness of Uganda’s products and firms, promote a culture of creativity and innovation, and improve the livelihoods of Ugandans. NSTEIC requires the services of dedicated, competent, innovative and result- oriented individuals for employment on a contract basis for the posts below;
The individuals recruited will be training others to perform the same skills the applicants already have. They will provide evidence that they are trainable in a number of areas necessary in Training of Trainers (ToT). This requires prior and ongoing experience in the relevant technical field. It also requires the demonstration of some of the competences in generic ToT.
To qualify, the applicant must have:

Reports to Civil Engineer
Role Purpose
To operate heavy equipment and machinery in accordance with Centre safety and operating procedures and in compliance with regulatory authorities while ensuring healthy, safe and secure work practices to support the needs of the Centre.
Responsible for re-tooling and training of craftsmen, technicians and engineers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs routine inspection and maintenance on heavy equipment such as checking oil, water, and tires
2. Maneuvering the motorized heavy equipment to ensure the accurate removal and placement of materials.
3. Observing stipulated safety codes at all times.
4. Reporting injuries and other accidents to line managers
5. Advising the line manager of the requisite upgrades, repairs and replacements.
6. Detect mechanical faults and immediately report to the line manager for appropriate action.
7. Record machine movements and usage systemically in the provided log sheets.
8. Ensure Center equipment and machines are kept clean and tidy, and stored in a safe manner.
9. Operates graders for levelling and operates tractors to load materials such as dirt and rocks.
10. Operates backhoe and front-end loaders as required.
11. Operates forklifts and dump trucks to transport trash and materials.
12. Operates various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, and related assignments.
13. Monitor the servicing and periodic maintenance of equipment.
14. Detecting and fixing minor repairs and operating problems on the equipment
Role Requirements: (Minimum Required Qualifications)
• Diploma in Automotive engineering or Motor Vehicle technology from a recognized Institution or its equivalent.
• Evidence of Specialized training from a recognized institution, as well as a valid operating license for heavy equipment.
• Possession of degree in Automotive engineering or motor vehicle technology a is an added advantage
• A clean driving record and possession of valid operating License of Classes H, and or G as a minimum.
• 3 years’ experience in operating one or more of the heavy Construction Equipment.
