JOB DETAILS:
The African Women and Youth Action for Development (AWYAD) is due to implement a ten (10) months’ project in Nakivale, Rwamwanja and Kisoro Districts. AWYAD is seeking to recruit suitably qualified & experienced individual for the following positions:

Job Ref: AYD – 2024– PO – 01

Position: PROJECT OFFICERS -GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) (3).
Working Areas: Nakivale, Rwamwanja & Kisoro Districts
Report to: Project Coordinator GBV

Job purpose: The Project GBV Officer will be responsible for the planning, coordination and implementation of GBV activities (prevention and response), capacity building of staff and community based GBV structures and participate in project assessments. He or she will coordinate AWYAD’s field-level GBV project activities with the objective of preventing violence and discrimination and providing timely and effective response to survivors of GBV.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Will be responsible for planning and implementation of GBV prevention and response activities in line with the institution’s GBV strategy.
• Supervise and train Project Assistants and Case workers on GBV response and Prevention by mentoring them and conducting technical back stopping.
• Together with Case Workers, create awareness about GBV prevention and response activities to communities, local & religious leaders, District and local Government structures, NGOs among others.
• Ensures that cases of GBV survivors are reported immediately and followed systematically by involving stakeholders, advocacy and law enforcement authorities where necessary.
• Ensure referral pathways are maintained and follow up with partners conducted regularly.
• Build effective collaborative relationships with District and local Government structures for smooth project implementation.
• Support the MEAL Officer in monitoring and evaluation of the projects.
• Certify the accuracy and completeness of all case management files in the project.
• Hold and represent AWYAD in sector consultative meetings with other NGOs, CBOs and
service providers in accordance with AWYAD policy and guidelines.
• Develop workplans and write GBV sector reports with focus on project progress against indicators.
• Carry out capacity needs assessments on GBV in collaboration with stakeholders and refugees to ensure proper targeting of interventions.
• Document project success stories, challenges & follow up on implementation of project’s action points.

Qualifications, Technical Skills, Experience & Knowledge
• University degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Development Studies, or a related field.
• A Post-graduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management.
• A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in a rural setting, refugee setting or conflict situation is an advantage.
• Knowledge of GBV prevention and response approaches like “SASA methodology” and working with Community Activists.
• Direct counseling experience with GBV Survivors preferable.
• Experience in promoting community-level behavior change targeting prevention of SGBV is essential.
• Fluency in some local languages and written and spoken English is a MUST
• Ability to ride a motorcycle is a MUST with a valid riding permit
