Summary of the role
DFID Uganda is looking for a talented and inspiring A2 Social
Development Adviser (SDA) to till this exciting role in the DFID Uganda Team. The post holder will provide social development advice across the portfolio and take overall responsibility for DFID Uganda's gender work. They will represent DFID in technical working groups in the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social
Development and other relevant Ministries and play an active role in policy dialogue to improve the quality of gender work in Uganda

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership on gender programming

  • Lead on the technical aspects of the Support to Uganda’s
    Response on Gender Equality (SURGE) program as the Senior Responsible Owner.
  • Deliver on the role of Gender Champion to build capability and commitment across the mission through blogs, training and knowledge sharing.
  • Actively engage in the governance and management of key centrally managed programs.
  • Represent DFID in Government of Uganda technical working groups and other policy influencing forums.

Support delivery of social development targets across the office

  • Work closely with teams across the office to support delivery
    of social development targets across current and emerging DFIDU programs and priorities as required
  • Closely support the Senior Responsible Owner of the social protection program to effectively lead and manage and deliver results.
  • Undertake social appraisals tor new programs.
  • Support the generation of evidence and lessons on social development emerging from DFID's programs.

DFID Corporate Responsibility

  • Provide support on briefing and other preparation as required for Ministerial and high level visits, drafting letters to the public.
  • Provide regular human interest stories as required that
    Demonstrate the UK support to gender equality in Uganda

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Master's Degree or equivalent level of academic and professional experience In a subject area clearly related to social policy and development (including in social anthropology, sociology, political science, human geography, social/development policy and planning).
  • At least 5 years of professional experience related to social development work including ability to work with and influence primary stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience of social research, and of direct working in developing countries.
  • Experience in applying social and political analysis to policy and programs.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team.
