Roles and Responsibilities:
o Manage day-to-day financial transactions including payments, receipts, and reconciliations.
o Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records using SWRW’s approved accounting system.
o Ensure that all financial activities comply with internal financial policies and donor requirements.
o Support the preparation of project and organizational budgets in collaboration with program teams.
o Monitor budget utilization and provide regular financial forecasts and variance analyses.
o Alert management of any significant financial risks or deviations from budget.
o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management, donors, and partners.
o Prepare donor-specific financial statements, ensuring adherence to contract terms and reporting templates.
o Assist in the preparation of audited financial statements and liaise with external auditors during audits.
o Ensure compliance with Ugandan financial regulations, SWRW internal policies, and donor agreements.
o Implement and enforce robust financial controls to safeguard organizational assets.
o Maintain and regularly review the fixed asset register. o Process monthly payroll, ensuring timely and accurate salary payments.
o Remit statutory deductions (PAYE, NSSF) to relevant authorities.
o Maintain up-to-date payroll records and ensure confidentiality of salary information.
o Review and verify all invoices, quotations, and payment requests for accuracy and completeness.
o Ensure that all procurements and payments comply with SWRW’s financial and procurement policies.
o Support the administration and procurement team with financial advice during procurement processes.
o Manage cash flow to ensure availability of funds for project activities.
o Monitor bank balances, prepare bank reconciliations, and address any discrepancies promptly.
o Manage petty cash and ensure regular reconciliations
o Work closely with project managers to ensure correct financial management of projects.
o Provide training or technical support to non-finance staff on financial procedures and compliance.
Key Skills and Competencies
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
• High attention to detail, strong analytical skills and strong organisational skills
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
• Good organizational and time management skills
• Integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
• Full or part professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is a MUST
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in accounting roles, preferably in an NGO or donor-funded environment
• Knowledge of donor regulations (USAID, EU, GIZ, UN, etc.) is desirable
