JOB SUMMARY
The Accounts Assistant will support the finance team by performing day-to-day accounting tasks, ensuring timely and accurate data entry, assisting with client account management, and contributing to the preparation of financial reports and audit working papers. This role offers an excellent opportunity to grow within a dynamic and client-focused environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in maintaining client accounting records including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Process and record financial transactions accurately and promptly in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage).
- Reconcile bank statements, supplier statements, and customer accounts.
- Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for clients.
- Prepare schedules and documentation for audits and support the audit team with client engagements.
- Help prepare statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE, NSSF, and corporate tax under supervision.
- Communicate with clients regarding missing documentation, clarifications, and basic queries.
- Maintain an organized filing system for financial documents, both electronically and physically.
- Perform administrative tasks related to finance operations as required.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience in accounting or finance; experience in a professional services firm is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or Tally.
- Basic understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
