THE OPPORTUNITY
Crossroads International is seeking an experienced and resourceful Adult Learning Consultant for the exciting inception of the Mastercard Scholars for Social Change (SSC) program in Uganda. Under the supervision of the SSC Project Manager, the consultant will play a key-role in developing, implementing, and facilitating the adult learning element of the SSC program.
This post will involve the strategic design and implementation of the SSC curriculum, working with the local project team and Mastercard scholars to design, deliver and monitor individual and group training and learning experiences. The ideal candidate is passionate about the rights of women and girls, is committed to high performance and sharing their expertise to support the mission, vision and results of the project and is captivated by the opportunity to make change for youth.
The Scholars for Social Change Program aims to leverage on-the-job training to match Mastercard scholars with career pathways and fellowship opportunities that leverage their transformative leadership as well as technical skills. The on-the-job training, along with preplacement and postplacement components of the fellowship program, will support the development of practical skills to adequately equip scholars to be able to effectively seek employment after the program concludes.
The SSC program, funded by Mastercard Foundation, will provide 50 graduate alumni of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars program (70% young women), between 22 and 35 years of age, with two-year fellowship opportunities primarily in Uganda, linked to their field of study and experience within Crossroads’ deep-rooted network of local development partners.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Design and Facilitation of SSC Adult Learning Strategy (70%)
• Provides education, consultation and mentoring in adult learning theory such as transformative learning, critically reflective learning, critical thinking, self-directed learning, program planning, philosophical foundations of adult education, adult motivation to learn & team learning
• Conduct education and training needs assessments in collaboration with local project counterparts
• Develop and design a curriculum and training plan tailored to meet the adult training and education needs of the SSC program and Mastercard Scholars
• Research, evaluation, procurement and onboarding of a Learning Management System (LMS)
• Plan, develop, and provide or facilitate training programs, incorporating latest adult learning theories and expertise, and help determine best delivery modalities including microlearning, face to face events, e-learning etc.
• Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
• Provides ongoing one-on-one mentoring for all instructional staff in the area of adult teaching and learning
Monitoring the Progress of the Adult Training Program (30%)
• Provide regular updates to the SSC Project Manager on the status of the SSC Adult Learning element of the SSC program
• Work closely with the project Monitoring and Evaluation Team to develop and implement innovative learning evaluation and monitoring procedures.
• Ensure updates and supervision of the LMS platform in collaboration with the project team
• Provide updates to the Recruitment & Career Advancement Officer on the Mastercard Scholars progress and highlight where interventions are required to better facilitate and meet learning objectives
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO CROSSROADS
• Education - Master’s degree or equivalent education/work experience in a related field (i.e. organizational learning, Education, international development, international or multicultural communication, international business, or management).
• Experience – 5 years of full-time work experience as an internal or independent trainer, educator or organizational learning practitioner. Experience should include organizational learning, management, training needs assessment, and/or related activities.
Key Skills
• Ability to design and facilitate state of the art adult learning programs and provide this expertise to the Mastercard Scholars and other stakeholders on the SSC project.
• Understanding of the concept of Learning Agendas and Curriculum Design
• Skilled in applying and appropriately adapting organizational learning models and frameworks, particularly within a variety of cultural and cross-cultural contexts.
• Interest in and ability to quickly learn the technical language, key issues, and culture of the SSC Project Team and local project counterparts
• Genuine and demonstrated curiosity about effective approaches to individual, team, and organizational development and learning and how they can contribute to our program’s success.
• Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, including technical experts and different staff members in the Crossroads regional offices
• Demonstrated comfort, confidence, and effectiveness providing training services in a broad variety of settings including in-person and virtually.
• Experience coordinating and managing a training portfolio and adapting Learning Management Systems to facilitate this.
• Ability to listen, absorb, and synthesize, orally and in writing, the key themes from data gathered in interviews, background documents, and group discussions.
• Flexibility to craft a customized approach that is entirely focused on the SSC program needs.
• Interest and ability in building lasting relationships with clients and colleagues – a natural connector who sustains work opportunities for themselves and others.
