DSW seeks to recruit a Programs Manager to be based in Kampala, and an Advocacy Officer to be based in the field. These are full time positions for an initial contract of two years with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance. These positions are open to Ugandan nationals only. They will involve travel out of work station. This is an exciting? Opportunity for a proactive individual with excellent English language skills (native equivalent), interested in working in a dynamic team to backstop programme interventions in the field of reproductive health and family planning. The successful candidates will ensure the efficient and effective implementation of DSWs projects in Uganda consistent with DSW’s mission, vision and strategic plan.

Advocacy Officer

The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate and implement Country Office (C0) Advocacy strategy
  • Provide technical support, backstopping and relevant resources about the latest developments in the field of Advocacy for Health to the CO
  • Support resource mobilization efforts to ensure funds for advocacy programs are available
  • Represents DSW overall perspectives and interests to external and internal stakeholders
  • Participate in advocacy events! Activities at various levels these include civic education activities, budget processes as well as meetings with decision! Policy makers to name but a few.
  • Participate in internal trainings for advocacy in addition to involvement in provision of technical assistance to partners.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Core Qualifications

  • BA degree in social sciences, development studies or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in working with a non for profit organizations
  • Good understanding of Sexual and Reproductive Health issues globally and In Uganda
  • Hands on experience in policy advocacy
  • Knowledgeable of policy frameworks related to health in Uganda
  • Knowledgeable of decision making structures/levels both at local government and central government
  • Should have strong interpersonal skills
  • Should be able to work independently under minimal supervision
  •  Should have strong communication skills and fluent in English language both spoken and written
  •  Excellent computer skills
