Summary
The International Tree Foundation (ITF) is a charity that works to protect, promote, and plant trees and the communities they support around the world. ITF is looking for board trustees who are passionate about trees and who have a strong commitment to environmental sustainability, with a particular interest in African environmental work, especially in Uganda and Kenya. As the oldest international tree planting charity in the world, ITF has a long history of working with communities to grow trees and restore and conserve forests.
ITF is concerned with the multiple benefits of restoration – for both people and planet. ITF knows that the relationship between people and forests determines the success of its work. That’s why ITF is a community-led organisation. Meaning that the people whose livelihoods depend upon local forests are the people are at the heart of our work.

Responsibilities
• Set the strategic direction of ITF: Trustees will work with ITF's CEO and other staff to develop and implement the charity's strategic plan, with a specific focus on African environmental work, especially in Uganda and Kenya.
• Oversee ITF's finances: Trustees will be responsible for ensuring that ITF is financially sound and that its funds are used effectively, with a particular focus on ensuring that ITF's African environmental work is adequately funded.
• Provide oversight of ITF's operations: Trustees will monitor ITF's operations and ensure that they are aligned with the charity's mission and values, with a specific focus on ensuring that ITF's African environmental work is aligned with the needs of the communities it serves.
• Act as ambassadors for ITF: Trustees will represent ITF to the public and to other organizations, with a particular focus on raising awareness of ITF's African environmental work and expanding its connections and impact across the continent.

Experience and qualifications
• African regional experience and connections in the environmental community: Trustees should have experience working in Africa, preferably in the environmental sector, and have connections with key stakeholders in the environmental community in Uganda and Kenya.
• Passion for trees and environmental sustainability: Trustees should be passionate about trees and have a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
• Experience in the nonprofit sector: Trustees should have experience working in the nonprofit sector, preferably in a leadership role, with a particular interest in African environmental work.
• Strong financial acumen: Trustees should have strong financial acumen and be able to understand and oversee ITF's finances, with a particular focus on ensuring that ITF's African environmental work is adequately funded.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Trustees should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with others, with a particular focus on building relationships with key stakeholders in Uganda and Kenya.
• Commitment
• Trustees are expected to commit to attending regular board meetings and to participating in other activities that support ITF's mission, with a particular focus on supporting ITF's African environmental work.
