Call For Applications- IPPF Global Youth Connect "Youth Think Tank"

The Global Youth Connect platform is a virtual electronic platform established by the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) hosted by Reproductive Health Uganda (RHU) with the overall aim of strengthening global coordination around youth participation, leadership  and  improve  the  communication  of  IPPF  youth  networks.  The  platform specifically performs three core functions:

1) Collation, sharing and debating youth participation practice (tools, standards, policies, ideas)

2) Connecting and amplifying IPPF youth communications channels

3)  Scanning for and share opportunities to advance the IPPF youth agenda ie training, grants, advocacy forums etc.

As a means of ensuring effective and meaningful youth participation in all the processes of the running the platform, a 10 Member Youth Think Tank shall be established consisting youth drawn from the federation. The team will attend (3) mandatory meetings to review the operations of the platform. The youth think tank will receive routine capacity building on vast aspects of youth participation and leadership drawing expertise from IPPF.

Composition of the youth think tank:

Representatives will be drawn from the Six regions including: Africa Region (Nairobi), Arab World (Tunis), East and South East Asia and Oceania (Kuala Lumpur), European Network (Brussels), South Asia (Bangkok hub and Delhi sub-office) and Americas and the Caribbean (Colombia and Trinidad). Considering the unbalanced composition of association membership in these different regions, the number of representatives will be equitably made in relation to the number of MAs in the region and will be as follows:

Africa (2 representatives), Arab world (1 representative), East and South East Asia and Oceania (2 representatives), European Network (2 representatives), South Asia (1 representative) and Americas and the Caribbean (2 representatives).

Eligibility

  • Should be between 15- 25 years
  • Affiliated to IPPF Member Associations
  • Passionate about SRHR and that are active in their MA
  • Should have a commitment to human rights issues and meaningful participation of young people
  • Able to work on own initiative; flexibility and ability to work in a team and a good sense of humour
  • Young people who can speak any or more than (1) of the following languages; English, Portuguese, Spanish, French and Arabic.
  • Young people from different diversities are encouraged to apply

Knowledge, skills and attributes

  • Knowledge and passion for working on sexual and reproductive health and rights

(SRHR)

  • Experience in and passion for working with young people
  • Experience in SRHR Advocacy (social media advocacy is a bonus)
  • Good understanding of existing national and international SRHR and gender norms, policies and gender mainstreaming approaches
  • Good understanding of Meaningful Youth Participation and experience using the approach
  • Experience in managing and facilitating young people
  • Commitment to team work and ability to work with diverse groups of people
  • Good digital skills, including computer and social media skills
  • Flexible, creative and innovative
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in English (both oral and written)

Roles and responsibilities of the youth think tank

  • To promote the active and meaningful participation of young people in designated

MAs in all aspects of the global youth connect programme.

  • To support in planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning activities
  • To identify and coordinate young people within respective regional MAs that shall be responsible for providing information that can be added onto the information portal.
  • To coordinate from respective MAs to meet either by face to face or via virtual platforms like zoom, Microsoft teams, go to Meeting among others for capacity building on different aspects including policy analysis, advocacy, meaningful youth participation as well as share key lessons and experiences regarding SRHR and Youth participation.
  • To popularise the information portal
  • To provide leadership to the young people working within the program
  • To encourage meaningful youth engagement and participation within the federation
  • Serve as a spokesperson for youth in different platforms
  • To participate in IPPF global youth connect review meetings
  • Participate in annual youth forums
  • Advice the    Secretariat    on    the    planning,    development,    integration    and implementation of federation policies and guidelines on meaningful youth participation.
  • To develop reports on progress of all work done in line with supporting the development of content for the information portal.
  • To perform any other professional duties from time to time
