Call for Upcoming Researcher Applications
Background
Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC) is a body corporate established by the Nurses and Midwives Act, 1996 to regulate Nursing and Midwifery professions in Uganda so as to ensure public safety. In its mandate to protect the public from unsafe nursing and midwifery practices, the Council sets standards for the professions, and advises and makes recommendations to government on matters relating to the two professions among others. While executing its mandate, the Council faces difficulty in accessing current evidence to inform standard formulations and reviews; as well as to derive recommendations to government on matters concerning nursing and midwifery. To address this challenge, the Council has launched the research funding program to support scholars in generation of evidence that could be used in performance of the above functions. Accordingly, the Council conducted a Delphi study to derive the research agenda for nursing and midwifery regulation, and select key research funding priorities.
The Council is therefore pleased to announce the “Call for Applications” for our second cycle of the research funding program, 2022. The research funding program aims at strengthening the research capacity and grant writing skills of Nurses and Midwives in Uganda. It is also intended to support the Nurses and Midwives in enhancing their ability to generate evidence that would inform policies, standards and regulations that impact nursing and midwifery professions in this country, more relevantly and effectively.
