JOB DETAILS:
Our client a leading Financial Services Group with operations in East Africa is looking for a Chief Finance Officer (CFO) for their subsidiary company in Uganda. Reporting to the Managing Director, the CFO will be a key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), working extensively with the SMT, developing strong, collaborative relationships and providing business finance leadership to support the implementation of the Company’s strategy. The CFO will have direct responsibility for finance, accounting, forecasting, budgeting, cash flow, investment, treasury management, as well as effectively managing-the Company’s assets and liabilities with particular focus on matching the maturity profile of assets and liabilities as they fall duc..
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Be the lead financial advisor to the Cornpany’s SMT, Directors and the entire Company, for prudent management and utilisation of Company's resources;
• Providing leadership to the Company’s finance team to meetthe business’ performance goals;
• Assisting in formulating the financial direction of the business including preparation of annual budgets and long term business plans as well as supporting tactical initiatives;
• Setting operational policies forthe business, developing and taking accountability for the business plan;
• Developing and implementing robust accounting systems with appropriate controls that help safeguard the company’s assets and support the company’s strategic direction;
• Overseeing the actuarial valuation of the business;
• Managing the company’s credit policy and effective follow up of debts;
• Preparation of the annual financial reports / accounts for the Board, statutory purposes and record keeping for the business unit / segment, group reporting, risk management and compliance;
• Monitoring compliance with statutory provisions in respect to financial reporting, taxation, other statutory payments, in line with best financial operating, market and industry practice;
• Liaising as well as building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders such as Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), external and internal auditors, tax authorities, bankers, shareholders, etc;
• Ensuring Company compliance with legislative, regulatory and statutory requirements, identifying as well as managing risks and exposures to the Company;
• Managing the property business to ensure profitability; and
• Leading the finance team to meet business performance expectations and personal career aspirations.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or any other Business related field;
• A Master’s Degree in Finance or MBA is also highly desirable;
• Professional Qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CFA, or CIMA;
• At least 10 years’ experience in the financial services industry
• Ability to think strategically, but with a hands on pragmatic approach to implementation of strategy;
• Ability to interact at Board level and participate in strategic decision-making;
• Proven track record of strategic financial application i.e. the ability to put forward sound strategic recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the numbers;
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail with an ability to prioritise and work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines;
• An enthusiastic team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to build strong collaborative relationships both internally and externally; and
• Advanced practical knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) is essential.
