The American Refugee Committee (ARC) works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people and host communities – to better survive conflicts and crisis, and to rebuild lives of dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. ARC presently works in and with partners in ten countries globally. ARC has been operational in Uganda since 1994, and today has a strong and committed team of over 130 regular, full time national staff and partners. The overall goal of the Uganda program is to improve the well-being and self-reliance of the displaced refugee populations by ensuring the provision of basic services (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene; Community Services; SGBV/Protection; Child protection; Mental Health & Psychosocial support), currently in six refugee settlements - Nakivale, Oruchinga, Kyaaka II, Kyagwali, Bidi Bidi and Palabek - in Uganda. ARC is looking for competent, qualified, self-driven and committed individuals to be part of and contribute to accomplishing our ambitious and exciting 2018/2019 programming – several challenging full time positions, across the various refugee settlement sites as well as at the ARC main office – Kampala, Uganda:

Job Title: Child Protection Officer
Reports to: Program Manager
Location: Kyangwali

Job Summary
The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for monitoring the welfare of Un Accompanied Minors (UAMs) / Separated Children (SC) and other children at risk; provide psychosocial support (Child Friendly information and Counseling) to UAMS/SC and other children at risk, and monitor community structures on child protection.

Minimum qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Social work, Social Sciences, Community Psychology, Adult and Community Education and Development studies.
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in working on Child Protection issues with an INGO; and excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Strong knowledge of the local population and language is an added advantage
