Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango Project (RHITES-N, Lango) is a USAID funded project, operating in the nine districts of the Lango sub-region of northern Uganda (Alebtong, Amolatar, Apac, Dokolo, Kole, Kwania, Lira, Otuke and Oyam). RHITES-N, Lango aims at increasing the effective use of sustainable health services in the region. The Project is led by John Snow, Inc. in partnership with African Medical and Research Foundation (Amref), Doctors with Africa (CUAMM), The Medical Concierge Group (TMCG) and Another Option. The project will contribute to measurable improvements in key Ugandan national health indicators (HIV; tuberculosis [TB]; malaria, maternal, newborn, and child health [MNCH]; family planning [FP]; water, sanitation, and hygiene [WASH]; and nutrition).
The USAID RHITES N, Lango Project which started in February 2018 and will end in February 2023, in partnership with Ministry of Health, Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH) wishes to advertise for the following positions. USAID RHITES-N, Lango will facilitate the recruitment of qualified Ugandans on behalf of Lira RRH.
The hospital is a 400 bed hospital situated in Lira Municipality in Lira town with a catchment population of about 2.3 million people. It is a referral facility offering both specialized and general services.
Job Title: Clinical Officer – HIV UNIT (1) U5-MED
Report to: Senior Clinical Officer
Location: LRRH .
Duties and key responsibilities
• Providing quality comprehensive TB prevention and care including Drug Resistant TB including screening, baseline investigations, treatment as directed by the TB/ DR TB guidelines, follow up, management of side effects, and discharge.
• Providing clinical care to TB / HIV co-infected patients including management of opportunistic infections, initiating patients on ART, managing complications of ART, monitoring response to treatment.
• Participating in home visiting, contact tracing and investigations.
• Capacity building in all aspects of TB / HIV related treatment and care for other health workers, including CPD activities, training and mentorship.
• Ensuring that records are kept correct and up to date in both hard and soft copies
• Preparing cases for review by the MDR panel and preparation of cases for discussion in cohort reviews
• Maintaining accurate medical records and other data collection as required for monitoring, evaluation and research
• Participating in clinic team meetings, and participate in monthly program and staff meetings, and meetings on request.
• Conducts group and individual health teaching for patients, families, and community.
• Preparing and submitting reports.
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, skills and experience
• A diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution. Any added qualifications will be an added advantage.
• Training and experience in management of Drug Resistant TB cases and TB/HIV co-management is a must have.
• At least 3 years’ work experience gained through serving within a government institution or PEPFAR funded program
• valid registration certificate from Allied Health Professional Council must be attached.
• Ability and willingness to reside in and work within Lira district.
• Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-point). Knowledge and experience with DR TB MIS will be an added advantage.
