Marketing & Communications Lead - Job Description
Role Description
Refactory Limited is an academy that seeks to address the challenge of youth unemployment by closing the skills gap for talent in software & tech-related fields in Africa. Refactory Limited was established by four partners; Clarke International University (CIU), Laboremus Uganda Ltd and Fontes Foundation and Youth with a Mission UK.
Specific Terms of Reference
The Marketing and Communications Lead you will provide the following deliverables;
Marketing
• Create recruitment roadmaps to ensure that all courses are well subscribed ahead of schedule.
• Work with the approved design agency to create innovative and targeted marketing campaigns for the Academy’s intakes.
• Organise and run market activations ahead of the recruitment drives, paying attention to the right target audience.
• Understand the ecosystem wide education calendars to target the right audiences and timing for the academy’s intakes.
Communications
• Write Refactory focused blog posts, opinion posts, human interest stories, Keynote speeches, newsletters and press releases.
• Manage Refactory’s social media platforms including digital content copy creation, working in close collaboration with the approved design agency.
• Build and maintain Refactory’s reputation and visibility with press and the public.
• Handle inquiries and address issues from all media platforms.
• Track media coverage and follow industry trends for better Refactory communication.
Strategy
• Oversee the development and execution of the Refactory’s Public Relations and marketing and communications strategic plan.
• Understand the business model, the organisation’s purpose and offerings, and position it favourably before the target audiences.
• Use data to create a strategy for how to best improve communication efforts based on statistics from Google Analytics, Facebook Analytics, Twitter Analytics, among others.
• Conduct market research to inform targeted marketing and competitor analysis.
Administrative
• Host events in close collaboration with the rest of the team
• Handle Guest related Awards and Honors.
Requirements
The right fit person must have the following qualities:
• Excellent writing, communication, verbal, interpersonal, presentation and public speaking skills.
• Be a self-starter that is organised and analytical enough to make informed decisions.
• Be a creative critical thinker that solves problems with simple and up to scratch solutions.
• Have the ability to influence the team without consensus.
• Enjoy researching, writing and editing stellar publications.
• Flexible enough to learn fast and adapt to a fast paced agile environment.
• A Grammar Nazi that dots all the i's and crosses all the ts.
You stand a good chance if you have:
• 2+ years’ experience in marketing, writing and managing communications and media relations for an organisation.
• Experience in running advertising and marketing activations for recruitment.
• A knack for maintaining clean and well managed social media platforms and campaigns that represent a fun and forward thinking organisation.
• Familiar with the Education and Technology Ecosystems.
• Knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics
• Working knowledge of maintaining websites built with the wordpress/webflow framework.
• An Education background in Marketing, Communications and Public Relations.
