ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION:
AVSI is an international NGO with headquarters in Italy, which has been active in Uganda since 1984. AVSI is a prominent provider of development and humanitarian assistance around the world and brings strong management and innovative strategies to programs in various sectors including; Health including disability and mental health, Food Security and Nutrition, Education including early childhood care and development, Protection including child protection, Livelihoods, Energy and Environment.
PROGRAMME BACKGROUND:
AVSI Foundation with Financial Support from the Embassy of Ireland is implementing the Vocational Education and Skilling Programme (VESP), 2023 – 2027 in Karamoja with the aim of increasing gainful employment of youth in Karamoja. This programme builds on the first phase achievements of the Support to Skilling Uganda (SSU) project in Karamoja 2016-2020 as well as the 2021-2022 bridging programme.
Specifically, the programme will strive to increase youth opportunities for employment; improve capacity of skilling and employment entities (VTIs, CSOs and Private sector) and contribute to supportive legal and policy environment for youth skilling and employment. The programme will target youth from the entire Karamoja region with specific focus on Moroto, Nakapiripiriti and Kotido Districts.
JOB PURPOSE:
AVSI is seeking to recruit suitably qualified personnel for the position of Communications Officer to be responsible for writing and distributing content to promote an organization's brand, activities, or products. He/She will act as a liaison between the organization, the public, and the media to ensure that the brand remains top of mind.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop information and communication strategies to support overall organizational communication projects and programmes.
• Develop guidelines for internal communication tools and products for an effective organization’s internal communication, and networking.
• High quality graphics design of organization reports.
• Document project change stories, archive project photographs and update social media.
• Event rapporteur and taking minutes.
Produce quality photography.
• Produce quality videography and 3D animation.
• Event rapporteur and taking meeting minutes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Preferably degree in Mass Communications; Development Communication; Communications, Journalism, or other relevant fields.
• Demonstrated competency in InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Premier Pro, photography, filming and excellent writing skills.
• At least two years of relevant experience in developing, designing, production and publishing/dissemination of communication products using various media, organizing and producing major events of regional nature.
• Relevant experience in working for international organizations or consultancy assignments, especially in strategic communications planning.
• Knowledge of Monitoring and Evaluation may be of added advantage.
• General Competencies:
• Ability to work in a team in a multi-cultural environment.
• Ability to multi-task and work irregular and long hours.
• Sound knowledge of AVSI Foundation.
• Proficiency in standard computer applications: the objective of this assignment is to provide professional visual and photography, which can be used for external communication and publication purposes.
• Willingness to be based in rural or urban setting with frequent travel within the implementation area.
• Cultural sensitivity, patience and flexibility.
