Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda (WCUGU) is a nonprofit focused on promoting open knowledge through Wikimedia projects like Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities to collaboratively create and share locally relevant content with open access, while our vision is to cultivate a Ugandan community that champions sustainable open knowledge creation and utilization. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community Manager to oversee project initiatives, manage community engagement on various platforms, and create and implement communication strategies to promote WCUGU’s mission, ensuring the growth and sustainability of our community.
Job Summary
The Community Manager will play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaged community for WCUGU. This role involves overseeing member interactions, managing project execution, and ensuring effective communication across all platforms. It focuses on fostering a strong community, ensuring efficient project management, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Community Engagement:
• Manage online platforms (forums, social media, and other digital spaces) to foster meaningful discussions, activities, and connections among members.
• Create and maintain a welcoming environment that encourages participation and ensures all members feel valued and included.
2. Membership Growth:
Proactively recruit new members and implement strategies to retain existing ones, ensuring a growing and dynamic community.
3. Project Leadership:
• Manage and oversee projects aligned with WCUGU’s strategic objectives.
• Ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget.
• Lead project teams, coordinate efforts, and monitor progress for high-quality outcomes.
4. Strategy Development and Communication:
• Develop and implement communication strategies to raise awareness of WCUGU’s activities and mission.
• Create, manage, and curate content for digital platforms, including websites, social media, and press releases.
5. Media Relations:
Cultivate relationships with media houses and coordinate media engagements to promote the user group’s initiatives.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in community management, project leadership, and communication.
• Strong understanding of social media platforms, online communities, and digital engagement.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience in content creation and media relations is an added advantage.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Salary: 3M UGX gross per month.
• Benefits: NSSF and health insurance coverage for one staff member and two beneficiaries.
