World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is a global Conservation Organiza- tion, with presence in Uganda. Active in almost 100 countries, we have been working in the Eastern Africa for more than 20 years. Our mission is to stop environmental degradation in the world and build a future where people live in harmony with nature.
For our Uganda office, we are looking for a dynamic and committed County Director who will contribute to the growth of our program in Uganda and Eastern Africa.
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda.
Key Deliverables
• Lead the vision, strategic planning and institutional development of WWF Uganda Office nationally and regionally.
• Be accountable for the management of WWF Uganda Office and ensures it is managed effectively and efficiently in all key programme areas: Conservation Program, Finance and Administration, Human Resources, Partnership Development, Communications, Fundraising and Monitoring & Evaluation;
• Provide effective leadership and line management for all members of senior management team;
• Provide thought leadership on key issues at national level and manages key partnerships, including with national Government, the private sector and civil society, to ensure optimal communication and mutually beneficial relationships are established and maintained;
• Promote the vision and objectives of the WWF Uganda Strategic Plan to external and WWF stakeholders, and participates in strategic partnership building/fundraising approaches to them in coordination with all stakeholders as appropriate;
• Develop and take leadership of the process to become a strong network office through Network support;
• Provide effective leadership and guides line management to relevant trans- boundary or multi-country programs.
Qualifications required:
• At least 10 years professional experience in a leadership role, 3-5 years of which should be in Eastern Africa, with demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams;
• Minimum Master's degree in an environmental/conservation field. Additional academic degree and training on Business Management, International
• Relations/ Development, or other related fields in would be a strong asset;
• Proven track record in successfully developing, leading, and managing large- scale programmes and/or institutions in the field of conservation, natural resource management, international development, and/or other related fields;
• A proven leader with a Track record in leading and managing Conservation Programmes in Uganda and region, including transboundary conservation Programmes
• Sound knowledge and understanding of conservation priorities and programmes in the region and Uganda in particular
• Superior oral and written communication skills in English. Working knowledge of national languages is an added advantage.
Required Competencies
• Demonstrable and strong leadership in external engagement, strategic partnerships, policy and influencing with public, private sector and with funding agencies.
• Entrepreneurial leadership skills with demonstrable successes in mobilizing funding and technical resources for national and sub-regional conservation programmes
• Empowering leadership style in developing strong senior management and operations teams to enhance programme delivery, quality assurance, operational efficiency and risk management.
• A track record of building organizational talent by nurturing performance culture and encouraging empowerment and delegation
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
