JOB DETAILS:
About Soft Power Health:
Soft Power Health is a community health non-governmental organization dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality primary and preventative healthcare and community-based health education in rural Uganda. Soft Power Health is divided into two sections – a high volume outpatient clinic and community outreach. We have 15+ years of experience in our field and are one of the highest-volume health care providers in our district.
Soft Power Health is hiring a proactive, organized, compassionate and detail-oriented candidate to fill the role of Country Manager starting on November 1, 2021. We are looking for a dynamic, results-oriented professional with developing country work experience who can operate at and across multiple levels to support the organization’s strategic goals. The right candidate is someone who is interested in strengthening and creating operational systems, continuously building capacity amongst staff and who is comfortable working both at the micro- and meta-levels to ensure the organization’s successful mission-driven operations.
As the Country Manager you will get your hands dirty; the CM is a highly functional supervisorial position with active roles in financial management, people management, program development and implementation, operations and strategic planning. The successful candidate will need to be a high-caliber project manager to drive the organization’s operational calendar throughout the year and implement new initiatives. This role works with a highly diverse body of staff and multiple key partners, so you’ll use exceptionally clear communication and cross-cultural skills to succeed. Bring your energy, laser-focus and superstar multi-tasking ability to the table to join us in our mission.

What you will do:
• Report directly to the Executive Director (based in the US) and work closely with the Ugandan-based Medical Director for ongoing high-level leadership and organizational decision-making
• Lead and center a team of nearly 90 Ugandan staff; be direct supervisor to 10 team members including the Daily Operations Manager, Accountant, and heads of eight departments
• Supervise the organization’s in-country financial management, including the development of monthly and annual financial reports, annual operating budgets, monthly spending plans and expense approvals
• Ensure the organization maintains current standing with local and international governing bodies (Uganda NGO Bureau, URA, NSSF, etc.)
• Troubleshoot and problem solve anything and everything at all levels (think last-minute supply order approvals, organizing the import of a container full of mosquito nets)
• Spearhead partnerships with other local and international organizations, supervise local and international volunteers
• Support the organization in methodical development of written policies and procedures
• Provide other general operational and program management support for all initiatives and special projects as required

Who you are:
• First and foremost, a mission-driven, compassionate and motivated professional keen on providing life-improving care to members of our catchment area and beyond
• A multicultural, open-minded individual committed to valuing and engaging deeply with people of diverse life experiences and world views
• Highly motivated independent worker, time manager, and self-starter
• The definition of adaptable; the Country Manager must consistently adjust to changing priorities and circumstances
• Experienced in leading teams to achieve results
• Built for process improvement; able to consistently assess and re-assess in order to grow the organization’s resiliency

Additionally, You Will Possess:
• Work experience in the developing world, with a strong preference for East Africa
• 5+ years of professional experience in a related field
• A bachelor’s degree in a related field (master’s degree preferred)
• Strong computer skills with particular focus on MS Office (with advanced knowledge of Excel), Google Suite products, Trello, and others
• Ability to problem-solve creatively within limited resources
